Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 & Warzone — Every Fix in the September 25 Hotfix, Explained
A September 25 hotfix quietly followed Black Ops 7 and Warzone's Season 06 patch, fixing a Gunsmith bug that could Prestige the wrong weapon, several Rex Infernus and Totenreich Zombies exploits, a Network Camo tracking issue in Endgame, and a reversed Warden 308 Akimbo toggle.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 and Call of Duty: Warzone got a fast follow-up patch on September 25, just eight days after Season 06 "The Haunting" launched and one day after the season's main patch notes went live. The update carries version 2.06 on last-gen consoles and 1.108 on current-gen platforms and PC, and it is almost entirely a bug-fix pass rather than a content drop. Here is exactly what it changes and why several of these fixes matter more than they look.
1. What Actually Shipped On September 25
The September 25 build followed the Season 06 patch that arrived on September 24, which had already handled headline balance changes like adjustments to the cash-on-death system and C4 detonation timing. This second update, by contrast, is a cleanup pass: weapon-toggle bugs, a Gunsmith interaction that could swap your loadout, several Zombies map-breaking exploits, and a handful of stability improvements across every mode. Treyarch and the Black Ops support teams have kept up a similar cadence all season, pushing a balance-focused patch first and a bug-fix hotfix a day or two later once player reports come in.
2. Multiplayer And Gunsmith Fixes
Two of the fixes in this patch touch how players actually build and select their loadouts. First, the game addressed an issue where using the "Equip Weapon and Open Gunsmith" shortcut could cause the last weapon you had equipped to enter Prestige status instead of the weapon you had just selected. That is a meaningful fix for anyone chasing weapon-level Prestige unlocks, since it meant progress could silently land on the wrong gun.
Second, the Warden 308 Revolver's Akimbo fire-mode toggle had been reversed since Season 06 launched, so switching the setting produced the opposite result to what the menu displayed. Both issues were purely UI and state-tracking bugs rather than damage or time-to-kill changes, but they were the kind of thing that made loadout management frustrating in the run-up to Ranked Play matches.
3. Ranked Play Corrections
Season 06 Ranked Play launched alongside The Haunting with a new set of camos, calling cards, and win-based rewards, and this patch cleans up two loose ends from that rollout. The VMP submachine gun and a set of its attachments, which had launched partially restricted, are now fully unrestricted for Ranked Play use. Separately, the game fixed a display bug where the Crimson Ranked Play Season 5 calling card in the Career tab was showing an "unlock requirement" label instead of the card's actual name for players who had already earned it in the previous season.
4. Zombies: Rex Infernus And Totenreich Cleanup
The largest single group of fixes targets Zombies, specifically the Directed Mode map Rex Infernus and the Totenreich map. Reported issues addressed in this patch include the Z-Rex boss becoming permanently stuck out of bounds, players getting trapped in the Astral Flame status effect with no way to clear it, a portal incorrectly spawning during the fight against the Warden, malfunctioning turrets, broken interactions with several map objects, and multiple exploits that let players reach unintended out-of-bounds areas. None of these were balance changes to enemy difficulty or loot; they were map-state bugs that could soft-lock a run or let squads skip intended encounters entirely.
5. Endgame And Network Camo Progress
In Endgame, Black Ops 7's persistent PvPvE mode, the patch fixed the Ricochet semi-auto conversion attachment for the VS Recon rifle so that using it now correctly counts toward Network Camo progress. Camo grinders who had been putting rounds through that build without seeing progress tick up should now see it register properly. The update also corrected a text bug where the O.S.C.A.R. Guild Strike event was displaying the wrong splash text when it triggered mid-match.
6. Plate-Up And General Stability
Outside of the mode-specific fixes, the patch addressed a long-standing annoyance in Warzone and Black Ops 7 alike: using the "Apply All" option to plate up would sometimes fail to fully replace armor plates if one of them had taken only minor damage, leaving players with less protection than the UI implied. Activision also confirmed a broader pass of "various stability fixes" across all modes without itemizing each one, which is standard language for crash and disconnect fixes that don't have a player-facing description.
7. Where This Fits In Season 06's Roadmap
None of these fixes change the shape of The Haunting itself. The season's headline content — Haunted Hollow's takeover of Warzone's Resurgence map, the Rex Infernus and Tenshu Zombies content, the new Quantum and Bloodstead multiplayer maps, and the limited-time DOOM Event Pass — all launched intact on September 17 and remain unchanged. We covered that full content drop, including the new weapons and Ranked Play rewards, in our breakdown of everything Season 06 added, and the balance-focused patch that preceded this hotfix is covered in last week's Season 06 patch notes explainer. If you're still getting up to speed on how Black Ops 7's persistent PvPvE mode works, our Endgame mode explainer covers the systems this patch's camo fix applies to.
8. What Comes After The Haunting
Season 06 is also the point where Call of Duty's live content began winding down ahead of a bigger transition: Activision has confirmed that Black Ops 7 and Warzone content packs are being reorganized to prepare for the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, which Infinity Ward has officially announced for October 23, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2. That timeline lines up with recent groundwork already visible in Warzone, like the new operator skin toggle built specifically for Modern Warfare 4 compatibility, which we explained when it rolled out. Expect the current title-update cadence — a balance patch followed by a hotfix — to continue through the rest of Season 06 before attention shifts toward Modern Warfare 4's launch window.
9. Quick Tips Recap
- Update to version 2.06 (last-gen) or 1.108 (current-gen/PC) to get these fixes; they should already be live via the standard title update.
- If you were grinding the VS Recon's Ricochet semi-auto build for Network Camo in Endgame, your progress should now track correctly.
- Re-check your Warden 308 Revolver Akimbo toggle setting — its behavior was reversed pre-patch and is now fixed.
- The VMP and its previously restricted attachments are now fully usable in Ranked Play.
- Always confirm your armor plates visually after using "Apply All" on partially damaged plates, even though the underlying bug is now fixed.
