VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026: LOUD Reach the Grand Final After Beating Team Vitality
LOUD defeated Team Vitality 2-1 in the Upper Final of VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026, becoming the first team to punch their ticket to the October 18 Grand Final. Vitality drop to a Lower Final showdown with 100 Thieves, who eliminated G2 Esports earlier the same day, with the winner getting one more shot at LOUD for the title.
LOUD are through to the VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026 Grand Final. The Brazilian roster beat Team Vitality 2-1 in the Upper Final on October 16, avenging the only match they had lost at the event and becoming the first team to lock in a spot in the October 18 title match at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
The result also reshuffled the rest of the bracket. Vitality drop into the Lower Final to face 100 Thieves, who eliminated G2 Esports earlier the same day. Here's exactly what happened in the Upper Final, what it means for the final weekend of the 2026 VALORANT Champions Tour season, and how to watch what's left.
1. LOUD Beat Team Vitality 2-1 to Reach the Grand Final
LOUD defeated Team Vitality 2-1 in the Upper Final of VALORANT Champions Shanghai, closing out the series with a decider win on Haven. The win sends LOUD straight to the Grand Final on October 18, while Vitality are forced to play one more series — the Lower Final — to keep their title hopes alive.
The series carried extra weight because Vitality were the only team to beat LOUD at this Champions. The two sides met in the group stage on September 30, where Vitality won 2-0. The Upper Final was a rematch, and this time LOUD came out on top.
2. Map by Map: How the Series Played Out
Vitality drew first blood on Lotus, closing it out 13-8 to put LOUD on the back foot. LOUD answered immediately on Summit, sweeping every round of a dominant second half to win 13-5 and force a decider. That map wasn't without controversy — a lengthy technical pause partway through drew scrutiny from both teams and broadcast talent before officials reviewed it and let the result stand.
The decider on Haven went LOUD's way 13-11, closing out the series and sending the Brazilian roster to their first Champions Grand Final with this lineup. Map-veto patterns were notable too: Vitality banned Sunset out of the series every single map, while LOUD banned Ascent for a third straight map, suggesting both coaching staffs had settled on clear comfort picks heading into the biggest series of their season.
3. Standout Performances From Both Teams
LOUD's offense was led by duelist Lucca "lukxo" Travaioli, who finished the series with the most kills on either side and 16 first kills across the three maps, repeatedly winning the opening duel for his team. Roberto "erde" Lobos backed him up with a well-rounded series, and Sebastián "Darker" Cicuamia and Enzo "tkzin" Zimiani both contributed heavily, with tkzin adding 8 first kills of his own.
Vitality didn't go quietly. Nikita "Derke" Sirmitev and Ştefan "Sayonara" Mîtcu both finished with 9 first kills, and Elias "Jamppi" Olkkonen put up a heavy stat line despite leading the server in first deaths. Dawid "PROFEK" Święć and Timofey "Chronicle" Khromov rounded out a Vitality lineup that simply ran into a LOUD team playing with nothing to lose.
4. The Other Half of the Bracket: 100 Thieves Oust G2 Esports
While LOUD and Vitality were playing their Upper Final, the Lower Bracket was also settling its final spot. 100 Thieves beat G2 Esports 2-1 in the Lower Round 3 decider, ending G2's run at Champions Shanghai and setting up a Lower Final against Vitality. It's the second time these two teams have met at this event — 100 Thieves beat G2 earlier in the group stage as well.
G2's elimination means the final four at Champions Shanghai is now set: LOUD, already through to the Grand Final, plus Team Vitality and 100 Thieves fighting for the second spot. 5. What's Next: Lower Final and Grand Final Schedule
With the bracket now down to three teams, here's what's left at Champions Shanghai:
- Lower Final: Team Vitality vs. 100 Thieves, October 17, best-of-five. The winner earns the right to play LOUD for the title; the loser is eliminated in third place.
- Grand Final: LOUD vs. the Lower Final winner, October 18, best-of-five, at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai.
Both the Lower Final and Grand Final are best-of-five, a step up from the best-of-three format used everywhere else in the playoffs, which tends to reward the more consistent team over a longer series rather than any single hot map.
6. Finals Weekend at Mercedes-Benz Arena
Champions Shanghai's last three days aren't just about the matches themselves. Riot Games has built a full Finals Weekend around the Lower Final and Grand Final, running October 16 through 18 at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
Showmatch (October 17)
A special exhibition match features Team Omega, captained by pro-turned-streamer TenZ, against Team Alpha, captained by Chinese streamer Karry Wang. The rosters mix professional players, content creators and musicians, including names like OhnePixel, Gus, Dabin, HangHang, Athena, AiJiang, keshi and whzy.
Opening Ceremony and New Agent Reveal (October 18)
Right before the Grand Final, Riot is running its Opening Ceremony with a live musical lineup, followed by a new VALORANT agent reveal on broadcast ahead of the title match.
After the final match point is scored, talent, co-streamers and media will vote to crown the Champions Shanghai MVP, capping off the 2026 VCT season.
7. Fan Fest and How to Watch
Riot has also built out a citywide Fan Fest around the finals, anchored at Qiantan Leisure Park, with partner activations, merch booths and a VALORANT x POP MART collection running alongside the matches. Several additional pop-up locations are scattered across Shanghai through the weekend, from a Champions pop-up store to co-branded cafes and a dedicated VALORANT-themed PC bang.
For viewers watching from home, every remaining match streams for free at valorantesports.com alongside the official VALORANT Twitch and YouTube channels.
