The 2026 VALORANT Champions Tour ends where it always ends: at Champions, the single tournament that crowns VALORANT's World Champion. This year that stage is Shanghai, China — the first time Riot Games has brought its biggest VALORANT event to the country, and the culmination of a full year of regional play across Americas, EMEA, Pacific and China. Sixteen teams, one trophy, and roughly a month of best-of-three and best-of-five matches decide it.

1. What Is VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026?
VALORANT Champions is Riot Games' annual world championship for VALORANT esports, sitting above the regional Kickoff, Stage 1 and Stage 2 leagues that make up the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT). Champions Shanghai runs from September 24 to October 18, 2026, and brings together the 16 best teams from the year's four international leagues — VCT Americas, VCT EMEA, VCT Pacific and VCT China — to decide the 2026 World Champion.
It's the first time the tournament has been held in mainland China, and Riot has built the event around that milestone, with a Shanghai-wide opening weekend of fan activations before a single match is played.
2. How Teams Qualified: The Road to Shanghai
Champions is a closed, invite-only field, and every one of the 16 slots was earned through the regular VCT season. Each of the four international leagues — Americas, EMEA, Pacific and China — sent four teams:
- The winner and runner-up of that league's Stage 2 playoffs qualified directly.
- The remaining two spots went to the teams with the highest Championship Points from that league that hadn't already qualified through Stage 2 — Riot's season-long standings system that rewards consistent results across both stages.
That means every team walking into Shanghai either won something big in the back half of the season or ground out points across the whole year to get there. There are no wildcards and no play-in stage — 16 teams arrive, and 16 teams start on equal footing in the group draw.
3. The 16 Qualified Teams and the Group Draw
The confirmed VCT Champions Shanghai field, by region:

- VCT EMEA: Karmine Corp, Team Liquid, FUT Esports, Team Vitality

Riot's official group draw split the 16 teams into four groups of four, seeding one team from each region into every group so no group is region-locked:

4. Format: Group Stage, Then Double-Elimination Playoffs
Champions Shanghai runs in two stages:
Group Stage (September 24 – October 4)
Each of the four groups plays its own double-elimination mini-bracket, with every match a best-of-three. Lose twice in your group and you're out of the tournament entirely. The top two finishers from each group (eight teams total) advance to Playoffs.
Playoffs (October 7 – October 18)
The eight group survivors move into a full double-elimination bracket. As Riot puts it plainly on the official bracket graphic: "One loss puts you on the edge. Two losses send you home." Every playoff match is best-of-three, except for the Grand Final, which is a best-of-five.
5. Full Schedule: The Key Dates
Riot's official schedule graphic breaks the event down day by day. The opening week of Group Stage matches is set as follows:
- September 24: Team Liquid vs. Paper Rex; TYLOO vs. G2 Esports
- September 25: Nongshim RedForce vs. NRG; Karmine Corp vs. Xi Lai Gaming
- September 26: Global Esports vs. Team Vitality; LOUD vs. Edward Gaming
- September 27: 100 Thieves vs. T1; JD Gaming vs. FUT Esports
Group Stage continues through Upper Bracket matches (September 28 – 30) and Lower Bracket matches (October 1 – 4), with several dark (no-match) days built in for travel and rest. Playoffs then run October 7 – 11 for the opening rounds, with Upper Finals and Lower Semifinals on October 16, Lower Finals on October 17, and the Grand Final on October 18.
6. Venues and Prize Pool
Champions Shanghai uses two venues. Group Stage and the early rounds of Playoffs are held at the Jing'an Sports Center, while the biggest matches — the Top 4 and the Grand Final — move to the much larger Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, an 18,000-capacity venue that has previously hosted major concerts and NBA exhibition games in the city.
The tournament carries a total prize pool of $2,250,000, split among the field based on final placement, with the largest share going to whichever team lifts the trophy on October 18.
7. How to Watch: Broadcast, Pick'Ems and Drops
Matches are broadcast free on VALORANT's official channels — primarily Twitch and YouTube — with commentary talent including former pro players and analysts calling every series.
Riot is also running its usual viewer-engagement programs around the event:
- Drops: Watch a minimum of 30 minutes during Groups or Playoffs to unlock the "Prepared" player title, and 30 minutes during the Grand Final for the "Stamp of Approval" spray.
- Shotcall: An in-broadcast prediction game where accumulating points across the event unlocks cosmetic rewards, including a player card for finishing in the top 3% on any single map.
- Pick'Ems: Powered by AWS, letting fans predict match outcomes for titles and buddies, up to a "Master" tier reward for finishing in the top 20% of all predictions.
8. The Champions Anthem and Opening Weekend
Every Champions event gets its own anthem, and this year Riot brought in Grabbitz — producing his fourth VALORANT collaboration — alongside Oli Sykes of Bring Me the Horizon and Courtney LaPlante of Spiritbox for "If The Sun Burns Out Tonight," released on VALORANT's official YouTube channel on September 16.
Riot also kicked off an opening-weekend celebration across Shanghai rather than waiting for the first match, with fan activations at spots including Pop Mart, Hai Di Lao, an Artist Alley showcase, and a dedicated VALORANT-themed PC bang, alongside content from a lineup of creators covering the event on the ground.
