Quick Summary

VALORANT's Patch 13.06 overhauled Agent progression with the new Agent Mastery system, added the scoped Warden rifle, and introduced the Gauntlet: Glitched limited-time mode. Here's what changed and how each new system actually works.

VALORANT's Patch 13.06 landed on September 22, 2026, and it's the biggest systems update Riot Games has shipped in months. Alongside the usual balance tweaks, it reworked how players show off their dedication to an Agent, introduced the first new rifle in years, and added a chaotic limited-time mode built around stolen abilities. Here's everything that actually changed, explained in plain terms.

1. What's in Patch 13.06 at a Glance

Patch 13.06 touches four major areas of VALORANT: Agent progression, the weapon roster, game modes, and competitive integrity. The headline additions are the new Agent Mastery system (replacing the old Agent Gear track), the Warden rifle, and the Gauntlet: Glitched limited-time mode. Riot also rolled out a renewed push against boosting and smurfing, a practice-range option from the matchmaking queue, and a scoreboard change that swaps Average Combat Score for a new Performance Score.

None of this changes the core 5v5 Unrated or Competitive experience in a dramatic way — no map left rotation, no agent was reworked — but the progression and mode changes are substantial enough that it's worth understanding each piece before you queue up.

2. The New Agent Mastery System Explained

Agent Mastery replaces the old Agent Gear progression track entirely. As Riot put it in the patch notes, "When you play Clove, you progress Clove" — mastery is now tracked per Agent rather than as one shared pool. Everyone started this patch at zero, regardless of how much Agent Gear progress they had before.

Act Levels vs. Lifetime Levels

There are two progression tracks running at once:

  • Act Levels track your progress with an Agent during the current Act only, and reset when a new Act begins.
  • Lifetime Levels permanently track your total progress with an Agent across every Act you've played. Every Act Level you earn also adds one Lifetime Level, so the two climb together — Lifetime progress just never resets.

You earn Mastery Points (MP) by playing a given Agent in supported modes, and wins plus strong individual performance grant bonus MP on top of the base amount.

What You Actually Unlock

Hitting Act Levels 4, 7, and 10 on an Agent unlocks Portrait Accents that visibly upgrade your Agent Portrait in the pre-game lobby. Reaching Act Level 10 doesn't cap progress either — Riot added Overleveling, so you can keep earning rewards on a mastered Agent for the rest of the Act. Separately, Lifetime Levels unlock access to that Agent's Reward Track, where you spend Kingdom Credits on cosmetics. Riot folded the old Agent Gear items directly into these tracks, and confirmed that any Agent Gear you'd already unlocked carries over — nothing is lost. The system also introduces Agent IDs, customizable identity cards with their own unlockable components, for showing off your investment outside of a match.

3. Meet the Warden: VALORANT's New Scoped Rifle

The Warden is the first new rifle added to VALORANT's economy tier in years, slotting in at 2,900 credits alongside the Vandal and Phantom. Its defining feature is a built-in 2x scope, something neither of the other full-auto rifles has.

Warden Weapon Stats

  • Cost: 2,900 credits
  • Fire mode: Automatic rifle, 2x magnification scope
  • Damage: 50 body damage at all ranges (no falloff), 200 headshot, 42 leg damage
  • Magazine: 18 rounds, 36 rounds in reserve
  • Reload time: 2.5 seconds
  • Wall penetration: Medium

The lack of damage falloff and the attached scope make the Warden a long-sightline specialist — it's built for players who want rifle accuracy at range without switching to a marksman weapon. Its fire rate trades behind the Vandal and Phantom, so it's not a clear upgrade; it's a third option for a specific playstyle. One notable detail: Riot has confirmed the Warden will not be in the competitive weapon pool for VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026, so you won't see it on the biggest stage this year even as it rolls out in public matchmaking.

4. Gauntlet: Glitched — The New Limited-Time Mode

Gauntlet: Glitched is VALORANT's newest experimental mode, and it throws out standard Agent kits entirely. Sixteen players queue in as eight duos, and each player builds a hybrid "Robo-Agent" by drafting abilities pulled from the existing Agent roster — then "glitches" alter those abilities in exaggerated, sometimes absurd ways as the match progresses.

How a Match Works

Each round, your duo faces off against another team in the lobby. Losing a round costs your duo health rather than eliminating you outright, and once that health runs out, your run ends. A full game lasts roughly 8 to 15 minutes — considerably shorter than a standard Competitive match.

Battlegrounds Built for 2v2

Rather than reusing full-size maps, Gauntlet: Glitched takes place across four new arenas that remix familiar VALORANT locations into tighter spaces designed specifically for 2v2 skirmishes.

Because it's a limited-time mode, Gauntlet: Glitched won't be in rotation permanently — treat it as a between-season novelty rather than something to build long-term strategy around.

5. Competitive and Quality-of-Life Changes

A few smaller but meaningful changes shipped alongside the headline features:

  • Anti-boosting push: Riot says its boosting-detection systems are now banning roughly 1,600 accounts per day, and this patch continues that enforcement push against smurfing and boosted accounts.
  • Range and Queue: Players can now access the practice range while sitting in the matchmaking queue, so warming up no longer means missing a pop.
  • Performance Score: This replaces Average Combat Score as the stat used to determine MVP and scoreboard rankings, factoring in more than raw damage output.
  • Bug fixes: Ultimate voiceover cutoffs were fixed, possessable-ability Agents (Tejo, Sova, Gekko, Cypher, Skye) now flash correctly when exiting their abilities, Cypher's Trapwire visual state after death or suppression was corrected, and a flex-equipment jiggle-peek exploit was patched.

6. How This Fits Into VALORANT's 2026 Season

Patch 13.06 arrived just as the competitive spotlight shifted to China. The season's final international event, VALORANT Champions 2026, is currently underway in Shanghai, running from September 24 through October 18, with the group stage wrapping up in early October before the playoffs move to the Mercedes-Benz Arena. If you want the tournament context behind the patch, our breakdowns of how the Shanghai group stage opened and the Week One results coming out of the group stage cover what's happened on the server side of the competitive bracket, separate from these client-wide changes.

For most players, though, Patch 13.06 is really about long-term investment: Agent Mastery gives grinding out games on a favorite Agent a visible payoff again, the Warden adds a genuine playstyle choice at the rifle price point, and Gauntlet: Glitched is a low-stakes way to blow off steam between ranked sessions.

7. Quick Tips Recap

  • Agent Mastery is per-Agent now — focus reps on whichever Agent you want to level, since progress doesn't pool across your roster.
  • Reach Act Level 10 on an Agent and you can keep earning through Overleveling instead of capping out for the rest of the Act.
  • Try the Warden on long sightlines where its flat damage profile and 2x scope matter more than fire rate.
  • Use Range and Queue to warm up without losing your place in matchmaking.
  • Don't expect to see the Warden at Champions Shanghai 2026 — Riot has kept it out of the competitive pool for now.
