RDC 2026's Quieter Announcements: Offline Play, Turn-Based Games and the Roblox Card Explained
Beyond the headline Wallet and standalone-app news, Roblox's RDC 2026 keynote quietly confirmed offline solo play, native turn-based multiplayer support, a cross-game friends chat tab, voice typing, Discovery algorithm changes, and the new Roblox Card.
Roblox's biggest RDC 2026 reveals—standalone apps, the AI-powered Build tool, and the new Roblox Wallet—have already gotten plenty of attention. But the September keynote, delivered by founder and CEO David Baszucki to mark the platform's 20th anniversary, also quietly confirmed a handful of smaller changes that will shape how people play and chat on Roblox over the next year. None of them got their own trailer, but together they touch solo play, turn-based games, voice chat, how experiences get discovered, and how creators spend what they earn.
Here's what Roblox actually confirmed about offline play, turn-based multiplayer, voice typing, the Discovery algorithm, and the new Roblox Card—separate from the headline RDC 2026 news about standalone apps and the Wallet.
1. Offline Play Is Coming to Roblox
Roblox confirmed that creators will be able to let players enjoy their experiences without an internet connection. According to the keynote, developers will be able to enable offline solo play alongside their existing live multiplayer modes, with the rollout happening gradually over the next year. Early access to the feature is described as "coming soon," with broader availability targeted for mid-2027.
This is a build toggle, not a blanket platform change—it will be up to individual creators to decide whether their experience supports an offline mode, and which parts of it make sense without a live server. Expect single-player obstacle courses, story experiences, and simulator-style games to be the most likely candidates once the feature reaches Studio.
2. Turn-Based Multiplayer Gets Proper Support
Board games, card games, and other turn-based experiences have always been possible on Roblox, but developers have had to build their own systems to tell players when it's their move. Roblox is now building that directly into the platform: a native notification system will alert a player when it becomes their turn in a turn-based game, even if they've stepped away from that specific screen.
The feature enters Studio Beta in October 2026, with a full release targeted by the end of the year. For creators making chess-style, trivia, or tabletop-style games, it removes one of the more annoying pieces of custom engineering they'd otherwise have to maintain themselves.
3. A Friends Chat Tab—and Voice Typing
Roblox also announced a new friends chat tab that follows players across different experiences, rather than resetting every time they join a new game. The idea is to make it easier for a group of friends to coordinate in one place and then jump into the same experience together, instead of losing track of the conversation the moment someone switches games.
Alongside the new tab, Roblox has already released voice typing, which lets players speak a message instead of typing it out. It's aimed at younger players and anyone on mobile who finds an on-screen keyboard slow, and it slots into the same chat system Roblox has been steadily overhauling throughout 2026.
Roblox also previewed Quick Words, preset phrases creators can drop into their games later this year (think "start your engines" in a racing game), with each phrase reviewed in advance for policy compliance before it ships. That feature, along with the new Moments tab, got its own deep dive in walkthroughs.net's breakdown of Roblox's Moments, Quick Words and pre-roll ads.
4. Discovery Now Looks Beyond a Game's First Week
One of the more consequential changes for creators didn't come with flashy artwork at all: Roblox is adjusting how its Discovery ranking system works. Historically, a new experience's launch-week performance weighed heavily on whether it kept getting recommended. Roblox says Discovery is now factoring in a game's performance over a 28-day window instead of judging it almost entirely on the first week.
In practice, that should give slower-burn experiences more time to find an audience before Discovery moves on to the next new release. Roblox also said it's testing a separate version of Discovery optimized specifically for bringing new players onto the platform for the first time, rather than just surfacing games to existing users.
5. The Roblox Card: Spending Creator Earnings Directly
RDC 2026 also introduced the Roblox Card, a physical and virtual card tied directly to a creator's Roblox Wallet balance. Instead of transferring Wallet earnings to a bank account first, creators will be able to spend their available balance anywhere that accepts card payments. Roblox has said the Card's rollout begins in 2027, following the Wallet's own rollout later in 2026 to eligible independent creators in the United States who are 18 or older, with international expansion planned for the following year.
The Card only works because the Wallet exists underneath it: Wallet is the actual payments account, provided through financial partner Airwallex US, LLC, and managed from the Creator Hub. Roblox says earnings pay out in real currency every business day as holds clear, rather than sitting until a creator manually requests a payout.
6. How Much Are Creators Actually Earning?
Roblox used the keynote to update its creator-earnings figures. The company says creators have earned more than $5 billion since its DevEx cash-out program launched in 2013, with roughly $1.7 billion of that earned in just the past 12 months (figures reported as of June 30, 2026). Roblox also said its Roblox Plus subscriber incentive program generated more than 300 million Robux in creator earnings in its first four months (data through August 17, 2026). For more on how that money actually moves—from Robux to real currency—walkthroughs.net has a full explainer on how Robux works, including buying, earning and cashing out through DevEx.
Those numbers are the real context for why Roblox is investing in Wallet and the Card: as more of that money flows through the platform's own payment rails, Roblox wants creators to be able to use it without routing everything through a traditional bank transfer first.
7. What Else Came Out of RDC 2026
These weren't the only things Roblox showed off in September. The keynote also covered a fall lineup of new experiences, updates to 2D and puzzle-game tools, and the AI-assisted Scene Generator for Studio and Build—all of which got separate coverage, including walkthroughs.net's look at Build, the Scene Generator and the 2D engine update.
