Everything Roblox Announced at RDC 2026: Browser Play, Standalone Apps and the Roblox Wallet
Roblox capped off RDC 2026 with a Developer Forum recap on September 21 confirming a major roadmap: browser-based play without installing the app by end of 2026, standalone Roblox Everywhere apps, offline solo modes in 2027, and a new Roblox Wallet for creator payouts.
Roblox closed out its 20th-anniversary year with the Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) 2026, held September 10–12 in San Jose. On September 21, Roblox's developer relations team followed up with a full recap of every announcement on the official Developer Forum, confirming the roadmap of features now headed to the platform over the next year. From browser-based play to a dedicated creator Wallet, here is everything Roblox announced and when players and creators can expect to see it live.
1. RDC 2026 by the Numbers
Founder and CEO David Baszucki opened the conference by putting the platform's growth in context. Roblox says players spent 29 billion hours on the platform last quarter across more than 180 countries, and that creators earned $1.7 billion in the past 12 months alone — bringing total creator earnings to $5 billion since the Developer Exchange (DevEx) program launched back in 2013. Those numbers framed everything else announced during the week: Roblox is betting heavily on making it easier to both play and build.
2. Browser Play Is Coming by the End of 2026
The single biggest change for regular players: by the end of 2026, you'll be able to join a Roblox game directly in a Chrome browser tab, straight from an Experience Details Page, without installing the Roblox app first. Roblox says the goal is to let a friend share a link — in a text message or on social media — that drops the recipient straight into a game with a single click, no download required. This has been one of the most-requested features from both players and creators for years, since a mandatory install has always been a barrier for anyone trying a game for the first time on a shared or low-storage device.
3. Standalone Apps: "Roblox Everywhere"
Roblox also announced an initiative it's calling Roblox Everywhere, which will let creators package their individual games as standalone apps distributed separately across mobile app stores, PC and consoles, with Roblox itself powering the backend services (accounts, avatars, monetization, moderation) behind the scenes. In practice, that means a hit Roblox game could eventually show up as its own icon on your phone's home screen, install and launch independently of the main Roblox app, while still running on Roblox's infrastructure.

4. Offline Play Arrives in Mid-2027
For players without a reliable connection, Roblox confirmed that creators will be able to enable an offline, solo mode alongside their game's regular multiplayer mode. Roblox says early access for creators building offline-capable experiences is coming soon, with a broader rollout targeted for mid-2027. Exact details on which games will support it, and how progress syncing will work once you're back online, weren't specified.
5. Roblox Wallet and Roblox Card Change How Creators Get Paid
On the monetization side, Roblox unveiled the Roblox Wallet, a professional payments account built with payments partner Airwallex that gives eligible creators daily payouts in real currency instead of waiting on the older, slower DevEx cycle. It's rolling out later in 2026 to eligible creators in the United States who are 18 or older, with international expansion planned afterward. A companion Roblox Card will connect directly to the Wallet, letting creators spend their available balance immediately, with that rollout beginning in 2027.

6. AI Tools: Build and Scene Generator
Roblox also pushed further into AI-assisted creation. Build, a mobile-first tool that lets people describe what they want and generate a working game from a prompt, has already been used to publish roughly 9,000 games during its alpha, and Roblox says 71% of those came from people who had never used Roblox Studio before — suggesting it's genuinely lowering the barrier to entry for first-time creators rather than just speeding up work for existing ones. A related Scene Generator, which turns a text prompt into a ready-to-edit 3D scene inside either Build or the full Roblox Studio, is set to launch later in 2026.

7. More From RDC: 2D Tools, Cross-Game Chat and the Fall Games Preview
A handful of smaller but notable updates rounded out the conference. Roblox is expanding support for 2D and puzzle-style games, including frame-by-frame animation built from image sequences for side-scrolling and retro-style titles — a genre that's historically been harder to build well inside Roblox's 3D-first tools. Friends chat is also being updated to follow players across different games instead of resetting each time you switch experiences, alongside voice typing and preset "Quick Words" for faster in-game coordination. Turn-based multiplayer games are getting dedicated move notifications in an October beta, and the Moments tab (Roblox's short-form video feed) is being enhanced to let you jump into gameplay directly from a clip.
Separately, Roblox's Fall Games Preview — shared earlier in September alongside RDC — highlighted more than two dozen new titles from outside studios launching across September and October, spanning shooters, cozy farming sims, racing and survival-horror. At the conference itself, Roblox also handed out its 2026 Innovation Awards, with RIVALS from Nosniy Games taking home Best Shooter, Nosniy Games also winning Best Studio overall, and Animal Hospital picking up both the People's Choice and Builderman awards.

8. What This Actually Means for Players
Most of what came out of RDC 2026 is aimed at creators, but the knock-on effects are real for anyone who plays Roblox day to day. Browser play removes the single biggest friction point for jumping into a game a friend sent you, offline mode means a bad connection won't necessarily end your session, and Roblox Everywhere could eventually mean your favorite Roblox game gets its own dedicated app rather than living inside the main Roblox client. None of these have exact ship dates beyond "by end of 2026" or "mid-2027," so expect a staged rollout rather than a single flip-the-switch moment — Roblox has a habit of running features through early access with a subset of creators first.
