Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 — Every Launch Map and Multiplayer Mode, Explained
Infinity Ward has confirmed Modern Warfare 4's full Multiplayer lineup ahead of its October 23, 2026 launch: 12 Core 6v6 maps, three Ground War maps, four Gunfight maps, the modular Kill Block arena, and every mode arriving at launch and in the two weeks after.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches worldwide on October 23, 2026, and with two days to go, Infinity Ward has confirmed the full Multiplayer lineup players will have access to on day one. The studio's official "Ready for Launch" blog post lays out every 6v6 map, every Ground War and Gunfight map, the modular Kill Block arena, and the complete mode list — plus what's arriving in the week right after launch, ahead of Season 1.
Here's everything confirmed for launch day, map by map and mode by mode.
1. Launch Date and Platforms
Modern Warfare 4 releases on October 23, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. It's developed by Infinity Ward with support from several other Call of Duty studios, including Treyarch, Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software, and published by Activision. If you still need the breakdown of editions, pre-order bonuses and how Warzone fits into the launch plan, we've covered that separately in our Modern Warfare 4 release date and editions guide.
2. The 12 Core 6v6 Maps at Launch
Multiplayer launches with a dozen all-new Core 6v6 maps spread across different regions and settings, from a French rail terminal to a nuclear reactor complex in South Korea. According to Infinity Ward, the launch map pool is:
- Cachette — an abandoned wine warehouse and mechanic's garage converted into a covert armory on the outskirts of a French rail terminal.
- Coal — the remains of a Soviet coal processing plant in a remote, mountainous area, complete with a fallen smokestack and ore chutes.
- Lithium — a lithium processing refinery in a rural Mexican state, turned into an active combat zone beneath the Sierra Mountains.
- Lotus — a South Korean fishing village scarred by an amphibious assault, with a market, hostel and boathouse.
- Mumbai — a fugitive's hideout inside a dense residential district built around a Victorian market and rail line.
- Munition — an active North Korean command facility with a munitions depot, a linked skybridge and multiple hangars.
- Nautical — a South Korean ferry pulling away from a conflict zone at dawn, decks littered with debris and fire.
- Reactor U92 — a South Korean nuclear reactor complex mid-meltdown, centered on a concave command room.
- Rooftops — the snow-lined rooftops of a New York hotel, with a greenhouse, HVAC platforms and a boiler room.
- Sentry — an assault on a Russian military base in whiteout conditions, fought around a central command center.
- Silkworm — a dense South Korean shopping district centered on a convenience store and subway entrance.
- Transit 213 — an overgrown parking lot in western India packed with buses, flanked by a repair shop and gas station.
3. Ground War: Three 32v32 Maps in Hajin
Large-scale Ground War returns at launch with three 32v32 maps, all set around the fictional South Korean city of Hajin:
- Imjin Farmland — open fields, waterways and a large-scale mill on the rural outskirts of Hajin, built for long sightlines and vehicle play.
- Wolves Stadium — a dense urban fight through the heart of Hajin centered on a stadium, with multi-story buildings, tunnels and rooftops.
- Forest — a wooded hillside between Imjin Farmland and Wolves Stadium, with a guard tower, gas station and barracks as key objective points.
4. Gunfight Maps and the Modular Kill Block
Gunfight's tight 2v2 duels get four launch maps: Cafe (a Paris courtyard with a central fountain and statue), Library (a wood-paneled library packing tactical angles into a small space), NYC (a wintry downtown stage setting) and Smuggler (a rail yard with parked train cars). All four also support the dedicated Mobility Course training mode's combat drills.
The headline addition is Kill Block, a modular battleground built at the "Westbridge Training Facility." It supports both 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight, and its layout physically reconfigures between rounds — Infinity Ward says there are more than 500 possible combinations. Some sections are entirely new, while others pull inspiration from classic Modern Warfare locations like Crash, Highrise and Shoot House, appearing in randomized placements each match.
5. Every Multiplayer Mode Confirmed for Launch
Modern Warfare 4 launches with over a dozen Multiplayer modes, most offering Standard, Alternate and Hardcore variants. Hardcore rules bring a limited HUD, friendly fire and reduced health with no regeneration. There's also a dedicated Proving Grounds training course to help players learn the game's movement system before jumping into matches.
Respawn Modes
- Inflation (new) — eliminate enemies to collect cash bounties, but carrying more wealth marks your position to everyone. Overtime in the final minutes raises the cash multipliers for late swings.
- Hijack (new) — teams fight over a single Data Spike that can be carried, thrown or passed to teammates, then planted at the enemy Comm Station to score over time.
- Frontline — a respawn mode where teams always deploy from their own base and eliminations earned further from base count for more.
- Returning staples: Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed and Free-For-All.
Round-Based Tactical Modes
- Collateral (new) — blends Search & Destroy's bomb-site structure with an economy system: players start with a pistol and $800, earn cash for kills, plants and defuses, and spend it in a pre-round Buy Phase on weapons, armor, perks and equipment. There are no respawns and no custom loadouts — die and you lose your gear but keep your cash. First team to six rounds wins.
- Search & Destroy — the classic no-respawn bomb mode returns unchanged in structure, decided by planting, defusing or wiping out the enemy team.
- Gunfight — 2v2, 3v3 or 10v10 rounds with shared starting loadouts that rotate every two rounds.
Ground War and Party Modes
- Combat Outpost (new) — a Ground War-scale reimagining of Domination, where capturing Outposts earns a steady stream of points and unlocks team rewards like UAV coverage, a JLTV airdrop or a Light Tank.
- Gun Game — eliminate opponents to cycle through weapons, with the first to score a kill with every weapon winning.
Pre-Season 1 Modes
Two more modes arrive in the run-up to Season 1 as part of a Halloween event: Possession, a new party moshpit where eliminating an enemy lets you "possess" and teleport to their position while stealing their loadout, and Infected, the returning Survivors-vs-the-Infected mode.
6. What Arrives After Launch, Before Season 1
