Quick Summary

NBA 2K27 Season 2 added GOAT Builds, legend-inspired MyPLAYER archetypes that break the normal Builder's attribute and height caps. Here's every one of the 18 GOAT Builds, how to unlock each, and what else Season 2 changed.

NBA 2K27's Season 2 update, "Tip-Off," landed on October 16, 2026, and the headline addition is GOAT Builds — a brand-new MyPLAYER path that recreates real NBA legends with attributes and physical dimensions that go beyond anything the standard Builder allows. If you've ever wanted to run a 6'9" point guard with Magic Johnson's playmaking or a center with Wilt Chamberlain's dominance, this is the system that makes it possible.

This guide breaks down exactly what GOAT Builds are, every legend available and how to unlock them, and what else shipped alongside Season 2 — from the Patch 2.0 gameplay update to the new Crew Divisions bonuses.

1. What Are GOAT Builds, Exactly?

GOAT Builds are tailored recreations of past and present NBA stars, and according to 2K's official Season 2 Courtside Report, they break the standard attribute and physical caps of the regular MyPLAYER Builder. The example 2K gives is blunt: a Create Your Own point guard is capped at 6'7", but the Magic Johnson GOAT Build lets you run a guard with elite playmaking well past that height limit.

Each GOAT Build also carries a unique archetype name tied to the legend it's based on, rather than the generic archetype labels you'd see on a custom build. The trade-off is that signature animations are locked to the real player, preserving their authentic on-court feel — you can't mix and match dunk packages or jumpshots the way you can on a standard build. You do, however, keep full access to customize Badges, Cap Breakers, and Takeovers, so a GOAT Build is still yours to fine-tune, just within a legend's physical and stylistic frame.

2. The Eight GOAT Builds Unlocked From Day One

Season 2 launched with eight GOAT Builds immediately available through a new GOAT Builds path in the Builder:

  • Penny Hardaway — Point Guard
  • Gilbert Arenas — Point Guard
  • Klay Thompson — Shooting Guard
  • Carmelo Anthony — Small Forward
  • Andrei Kirilenko — Small Forward
  • Kawhi Leonard — Small Forward
  • Anthony Davis — Power Forward
  • Dwight Howard — Center

That's a build for every position right out of the gate, with a clear lean toward wing players — three of the eight are small forwards. If you're deciding where to spend your first MyPLAYER slot of the Season, it's worth reading up on how Badge Tokens and the Synergy system interact with a locked-animation build before you commit, since Cap Breakers and Synergy Slots are still the main way to push a GOAT Build further after creation.

3. How to Unlock the Other Ten GOAT Builds

The remaining ten legends unlock through three separate progression tracks over the course of the Season — the Season 2 Rewards ladder, REP ranks, and MyCAREER Lifetime Challenges.

Season 2 Rewards Track

  • Level 26: Magic Johnson (Point Guard)
  • Level 33: Dirk Nowitzki (Power Forward)
  • Level 37: Kobe Bryant (Shooting Guard)

REP Milestones

  • Elite V: Ray Allen (Shooting Guard) and Hakeem Olajuwon (Center)
  • Elite VIII: Derrick Rose (Point Guard) and Michael Jordan (Shooting Guard)
  • Legend I: LeBron James (Small Forward)

Lifetime Challenges

  • 300 Challenges completed: Anthony Edwards (Shooting Guard)
  • 350 Challenges completed: Wilt Chamberlain (Center)

Combined with the eight day-one builds, that's eighteen GOAT Builds to chase across the Season. The REP-gated and Lifetime Challenge legends are the long-term grind — Elite VIII and Legend I in particular require sustained MyCAREER and City play, not just a quick climb through the free Season 2 rewards track. If you haven't touched MyCAREER's Eras structure yet, our MyCAREER Eras and MyPLAYER Builder guide covers how REP and career progression feed into unlocks like these.

4. Community Builds: A Different Way to Stand Out

Alongside GOAT Builds, 2K also spotlighted five fan-made Community Builds in the same Courtside Report, created by players from the NBA 2K27 community and designed as alternate build templates you can copy:

  • Blix — Point Guard, 6'4", "Bulldozing Iso-Sniper"
  • Yaadmangaming — Shooting Guard, 6'8", "2-Way Bucket Chaser"
  • Aije — Small Forward, 6'9", "2-Way 3-Level Slammer"
  • VBucketss — Power Forward, 6'6", "Slashing Board Enforcer"
  • TTYME — Center, 7'0", "Gun & Give Paint Protector"

Unlike GOAT Builds, Community Builds stay within the normal Builder's caps — they're just proven attribute and badge spreads from top players, not legend recreations. 2K is also taking submissions for future rounds through its official MyPLAYER Community Builds page.

5. The Gameplay Patch That Shipped Alongside Season 2

Season 2 arrived alongside Update 2.0, which went live on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S first, with Nintendo Switch 2 and PC receiving it shortly before the Season 2 start on October 16. According to 2K's own patch summary, Update 2.0 "refines gameplay across shooting, passing, defense, steals, dribbling, and more," brings full 25-year careers to MyCAREER Eras, and increases REP and Crew XP earnings in Crew Divisions, on top of general fixes and improvements. If you want the line-by-line breakdown, 2K has the complete notes posted on its official patch updates page.

Crew Divisions specifically got a standalone boost outside of the patch: every Crew Divisions game played now earns Double Crew XP toward the rewards track plus a +25% REP bonus, and Crew HQ's difficulty was adjusted to match The REC for a more accessible baseline. Players chasing a tighter, competitive match can still use the Squad Showdown Kiosk, which keeps its own difficulty sliders for private matchmaking.

6. Also New This Season: Sunset Beach, MyTEAM, and 2K Beats

GOAT Builds is the headline feature, but Season 2 touches nearly every mode. Sunset Beach — originally from NBA 2K17 — returns to The City in remastered form, giving Crews a coastal Park location to grind Season XP and medals in. Over in MyTEAM, the Premier Exchange's marquee card this Season is Pixel Cut Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, obtainable by trading in cards you already own, while the free Season 2 rewards ladder runs from a Level 1 Diamond Jason Kidd up to a Level 40 Pixel Cut Karl-Anthony Towns, with Pink Diamond Obi Toppin, Galaxy Opal Roy Hibbert, Dark Matter Devin Vassell, and Pixel Cut WNBA Kelsey Mitchell along the way. Our MyTEAM Exchange and Auction House breakdown is a good companion read if you're planning how to spend Season 2 cards.

Players who buy the separate Season 2 Pro Pass or Hall of Fame Pass get additional earnable rewards on top of the free track — the paid passes include a Level 40 Pixel Cut Karl-Anthony Towns card with special edition art, bonus VC and XP boosts, and for Hall of Fame Pass buyers, an immediate 15,000 VC and 10 level skips. Both passes are available for individual purchase and expire at 7:59 AM PT on November 27, 2026. For context on how the free-to-paid rewards structure compares to Season 1, see our Season 1 rewards ladder guide.

On the audio side, 2K Beats returns with five separate Season 2 mixes: a Tyrese Haliburton-curated playlist featuring Drake, Jay-Z, and Meek Mill; a Space Jam 30th Anniversary tribute built around the 1996 film's soundtrack; a "Curated by 2K Beats" mix with Kid Cudi, Linkin Park, and Blackpink; a French Artist Spotlight featuring Charlotte Cardin, Genezio, and Nisko; and ten newly added Rucker Park tracks. The full soundtrack is also streaming on Spotify and Apple Music.

7. Quick Tips for Chasing GOAT Builds Efficiently

  • Start in the new GOAT Builds path inside the Builder menu, not the regular Create Your Own flow — it's a separate option now that Season 2 is live.
  • Pick a day-one legend that fits your preferred position first; you'll have access to all eight immediately rather than waiting on a grind.
  • Keep leveling the free Season 2 rewards track even if you're not buying a Pro Pass — Magic Johnson, Dirk Nowitzki, and Kobe Bryant are all free unlocks tied to Level 26, 33, and 37.
  • Treat REP rank as a long-term goal: Ray Allen, Hakeem Olajuwon, Derrick Rose, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James all require Elite V or higher, so these won't come quickly.
  • Don't skip Lifetime Challenges if you've been playing since launch — Anthony Edwards and Wilt Chamberlain unlock purely off your all-time completed Challenge count, so returning players may be closer than they think.
  • Remember Badges, Cap Breakers, and Takeovers are still yours to customize on a GOAT Build; only the signature animations and physical profile are locked to the legend.
