Minecraft World Hotel and Escape the Nether Coaster Revealed for Chessington 2027
Minecraft Live's September 26 broadcast confirmed the Minecraft World Hotel (69 rooms across four floors) and named the land's flagship ride, Escape the Nether — the first Minecraft rollercoaster — alongside construction footage from Chessington World of Adventures. Here's everything Merlin Entertainments and Mojang actually confirmed ahead of the 2027 opening.
Minecraft World, the first fully immersive Minecraft theme park land, already had a name, a location and a 2027 opening date. Now it has a hotel and a rollercoaster to go with them. During the September 26 broadcast of Minecraft Live, Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios revealed the Minecraft World Hotel and confirmed the name of the park's centerpiece ride, Escape the Nether, alongside timelapse footage of construction already underway at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in Greater London.
Here's everything that was actually confirmed about both reveals, straight from Merlin Entertainments' official announcement and Mojang's own recap of the show.
1. Two Big Reveals in One Broadcast
Minecraft World was first announced back in March 2026 as a £50 million project and the first-ever theme park land built around the game. Six months later, Minecraft Live gave fans two concrete pieces of that puzzle: a fully themed on-site hotel, and the official name and mechanics of the land's flagship coaster. Merlin's press release, published the same day as the broadcast, also included timelapse footage showing the ride's track already in place on-site — the first physical proof that construction has moved from concept art to steel and concrete.
Both reveals sit under the same Minecraft World banner that's opening at Chessington World of Adventures in 2027, and both were framed by Merlin and Mojang as an extension of the land itself rather than separate projects.
2. Inside the Minecraft World Hotel
The hotel will have 69 rooms across four floors — 20 premium rooms and 49 standard rooms — each designed around the game's biomes, mobs, colors and textures. According to Merlin's announcement, the theming starts before guests even reach their room: blocky trees and animals decorate the check-in area to evoke the Overworld, Nether Portal-inspired lifts carry guests between floors, and the corridors themselves are styled as mine tunnels.
The bedrooms — described in the press release as the "respawn point" — bring in the game's blocks, items, mobs and textures directly. Beyond the rooms, the hotel includes an underwater-themed restaurant inspired by Minecraft's ocean biomes and a potions bar themed around the Woodland Mansion, where guests can order what Merlin calls "vibrant potions."
"Not only will fans be able to experience the game imagined for real life, but they'll be also able to sleep inside it, ensuring fans respawn exactly where they want to be," said Daisy Mercedes, Creative Producer at Merlin Entertainments, in the announcement. "Every room, corridor and detail has been crafted with immense love for this game, the stories made within it and its community."
Filip Keatley-Thoms, Creative Lead for Minecraft Parks and Experiences at Mojang Studios, added: "Bringing Minecraft into an entirely new medium has been a fascinating creative challenge. We have thought about everything from the scale of the blocks to how mobs and biomes come to life in the real world."
3. Escape the Nether: The World's First Minecraft Rollercoaster
The land's signature ride now has an official name: Escape the Nether. Per Merlin's release, it's built as a high-speed indoor coaster that sends riders through dark mine tunnels before the track bursts out of the building through a Nether Portal-themed exit into the land's Overworld-themed outdoor area — making it both an indoor and outdoor coaster in a single circuit.
Minecraft's own X account confirmed the reveal the same day, calling it "the world's first Minecraft rollercoaster."

Merlin also released timelapse footage of the ride's construction, shot on-site at Chessington and shown during the Minecraft Live broadcast, confirming track is already installed for the coaster ahead of the 2027 opening.
4. The Rest of the Land: Rides, Retail and Dining
The hotel and coaster are only part of what's coming. When Minecraft World was first announced in March, Merlin and Mojang described it as bringing "Minecraft-themed attractions, including a thrilling world first coaster, interactive adventures, epic block built playscapes, and themed retail and dining" to the site. Angela Jobson, SVP of Global Brand at Merlin Entertainments, said at the time that the goal was to let "friends and families play, explore and craft together on a truly epic scale."
Mojang's own framing of the project has stayed consistent since that first announcement. Torfi Frans Ólafsson, Senior Creative Director of Entertainment at Minecraft, called it "a meaningful milestone in our ongoing journey to expand the Minecraft universe," adding that the partnership was built around making a place "where you can literally be in the Minecraft Overworld and have an adventure of your own with your family and friends."
5. Where and When You Can Visit
Minecraft World, including the hotel and Escape the Nether, opens in 2027 at Chessington World of Adventures Resort in Greater London — a 35-minute direct train from London Waterloo, according to Merlin's official release. Neither company has announced specific opening dates, ticket prices, or hotel booking windows yet; Merlin's release points fans to the Chessington World of Adventures website to sign up for updates rather than confirming any of those details, so treat any third-party date or price claims you see elsewhere as unconfirmed until Merlin or Mojang say otherwise.
6. Why This Reveal Matters
Minecraft has dabbled in real-world spaces before, through touring exhibits and licensed experiences, but Minecraft World is the first attempt at a permanent, purpose-built theme park land for the game, and the first Minecraft hotel of any kind. Confirming the coaster's name and mechanics — plus showing actual on-site construction footage rather than concept art alone — is Merlin and Mojang's way of proving the project is on track for its 2027 target.
It also lands in the same week as a packed Minecraft Live broadcast that covered a lot of ground for the core game and its spin-offs — worth a look if you want everything else Mojang announced during the September Live show, from a brand-new dimension to a frozen cave biome.
