Quick Summary

Grand Theft Auto VI is confirmed only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at its November 19, 2026 launch, with no official word yet on a PC release. Here's what Take-Two's CEO said about PC at the September shareholder meeting, and what Rockstar's history with GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 suggests about the wait.

Grand Theft Auto VI is locked to a November 19, 2026 launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but the question Rockstar still hasn't answered is the one PC players keep asking: will it ever come to their platform, and if so, when? Here's exactly what's been confirmed, what Take-Two's own CEO has said on the record, and what Rockstar's release history suggests about the wait.

1. GTA 6's Confirmed Launch Platforms

Rockstar's official Grand Theft Auto VI site lists the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S only, with a "Plays Best On PS5" callout in its own marketing. There is no PlayStation 4 or Xbox One version — GTA 6 is a current-generation-only release, a first for the mainline series, which has historically launched on the outgoing console generation before moving up (GTA V famously launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013 before later arriving on PS4, Xbox One, and PS5).

No PC version, no cloud-only release, and no mention of a Nintendo platform have been confirmed for launch day. Everything currently promoted by Rockstar — the official 34-track soundtrack album, the editions, the marketing push — is built around those two consoles.

2. What Rockstar Has Actually Said About PC

As of this writing, Rockstar Games has made zero official statement about a PC version of GTA 6, positive or negative. The rockstargames.com product page simply doesn't list PC as a platform. That silence is deliberate; Rockstar didn't announce PC versions of GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 until well after their console launches either, so an absence of a PC announcement at this stage isn't unusual for the studio.

It's also worth separating two different things people mean by "PC release": an official Rockstar-published version through the Rockstar Games Launcher, Steam, and Epic Games Store, versus cloud-streaming access through services like PS5 remote play or a future game-streaming platform. Only the former has precedent with GTA V and RDR2. Rockstar has said nothing about either option for GTA 6 yet, so don't take fan mockups or "leaked Steam page" screenshots at face value — none of that is verifiable through an official source right now.

3. What Take-Two's CEO Said at the Shareholder Meeting

The closest thing to an official signal came from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, not from Rockstar directly. At Take-Two's Annual Meeting of Shareholders, held virtually on September 17, 2026, Zelnick was asked about the company's platform strategy and said the PC platform is "becoming more and more important to our company over time." He also confirmed the obvious: "We're launching GTA 6 as a single-player experience on two major platforms" at launch.

Read literally, that's not a GTA 6 PC announcement — Zelnick didn't confirm a PC edition is in development, and he gave no release window. It's a general statement about Take-Two's business priorities. But it lines up with a real trend: PC has become an increasingly important revenue stream for Take-Two's back catalog, and the company has said as much in earnings calls for several years. Anyone hoping to play GTA 6 on PC should treat this as encouraging context, not confirmation.

4. Rockstar's Track Record: How Long PC Players Usually Wait

Rockstar has a consistent pattern of releasing its biggest open-world games on consoles first and bringing PC versions later, once GTA Online and Online Heists-style live features are ready for keyboard and mouse. Two data points define the pattern:

  • Grand Theft Auto V: launched on PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 17, 2013. The PC version didn't arrive until April 14, 2015 — about 18 months later, following two delays of its own. PS4 and Xbox One versions landed in between, in November 2014.
  • Red Dead Redemption 2: launched on PS4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018. The PC version followed on November 5, 2019 — roughly 13 months later, with the Steam release arriving a month after that in December 2019.

In both cases, Rockstar explained the wait the same way: extra development time was needed to make sure the PC build met its graphical standards and that the online components were fully ready. Both PC ports eventually shipped with real upgrades over the console originals — GTA V's PC version added native 4K support, uncapped frame rates, and extensive graphics settings, while RDR2 on PC added higher-resolution textures, longer draw distances, and its own set of exclusive visual options. If GTA 6 follows the same playbook, a later PC release wouldn't just be a straight port; it would likely be the definitive version of the game.

5. If the Pattern Holds, When Could GTA 6 Reach PC?

Applying Rockstar's own 13-to-18-month gap to a November 19, 2026 console launch would put a hypothetical PC release somewhere between late 2027 and mid-2028. That is not a Rockstar-confirmed date — it's simple arithmetic based on how the studio has behaved twice before, and it assumes a PC version happens at all. Treat any "leaked" PC release date you see elsewhere with real skepticism; Rockstar hasn't confirmed one exists yet.

6. Two Delays Already Behind It

It's worth remembering GTA 6 has already moved once in public. The game was originally targeted for a 2025 window at its December 2023 reveal, then given a firm date of May 26, 2026 when Trailer 2 arrived in 2025, before Rockstar pushed it to its current November 19, 2026 date. A studio willing to delay a console launch to protect quality is unlikely to rush a PC port either — which is part of why the 2027-28 estimate above leans conservative rather than optimistic.

7. What You Can Actually Buy Right Now

Until a PC version is confirmed, pre-orders are only open for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, in Standard and Ultimate editions, both detailed alongside their pre-order bonuses in our breakdown of every GTA 6 edition and pre-order bonus. If you're deciding which console to play on, remember Rockstar's own marketing singles out PS5 as the lead platform for the game's performance.

While you wait, it's worth getting familiar with what's already confirmed about the game itself — our guide to Leonida's map and every confirmed region covers the world you'll actually be exploring, and our explainer on the overhauled Heat system and smarter police AI covers one of the biggest gameplay changes Rockstar has detailed so far.

8. Quick-Tips Recap

  • GTA 6 is confirmed for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only, launching November 19, 2026. No PS4, Xbox One, PC, or Switch version exists.
  • Rockstar has not announced a PC version — positively or negatively.
  • Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick called PC "more and more important" to the company at the September 17, 2026 shareholder meeting, but did not confirm a GTA 6 PC edition or date.
  • Rockstar's last two major releases, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, reached PC 13 to 18 months after their console debut.
  • Applying that pattern here suggests a PC version, if it happens, would realistically land sometime in late 2027 or 2028 — an estimate, not a confirmed date.
  • Pre-orders are currently open only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
