Gears of War: E-Day Day-One Patch Notes and Season 1 "Emergence" Explained
Gears of War: E-Day launched October 6 as an Xbox and PC console exclusive, and The Coalition followed up with an October 5 day-one patch and the start of Season 1, "Emergence." Here's what the patch fixed, when Versus Ranked opens, and what to do if your Collector's Edition arrived damaged.
Gears of War: E-Day is out now, and The Coalition spent launch week patching it rather than resting. The studio's October 5 day-one update targeted online stability and a handful of campaign and Horde Siege bugs, and Season 1, "Emergence," is already running with a schedule of ranked play, weekly challenges and three limited-time events through early December. Here's exactly what changed, what's coming next, and where to go if something is still broken.
1. Gears of War: E-Day Has Launched — Here's What Shipped
Gears of War: E-Day went into early access on October 1 for Premium Edition, Premium Upgrade Edition and Collector's Edition owners, then opened to everyone worldwide on October 6 at 8:00 a.m. PT (15:00 UTC). The prequel, developed by The Coalition, is an Xbox console exclusive: it's available on Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam and the Xbox app, and it's a day-one release on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. There is no PS5 version, despite earlier speculation.
The game ships with its full campaign plus multiplayer at launch, including classic Versus PvP modes and a revamped Horde Siege co-op mode. Standard Edition is $69.99; the Premium Edition is $99.99. E-Day is a prequel, set fourteen years before the original Gears of War, and follows a younger Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago through the first hours of the Locust invasion — the day that gives the game its name.
Xbox leadership had previously fielded questions about a possible PlayStation release, but confirmed the console exclusivity ahead of launch, so Xbox Series X/S, PC and Game Pass remain the only ways to play at this time.

The Coalition published its official launch trailer to mark the game's worldwide release. It's embedded below straight from the Gears of War YouTube channel.
3. The October 5 Day-One Patch: Everything The Coalition Fixed
Ahead of the global rollout, The Coalition pushed a day-one patch on October 5 aimed at the issues that surfaced during early access. The studio's own patch notes break it down into a few categories.
Stability and Online Fixes
- General stability, performance, hardware compatibility and crash-reporting improvements across the board.
- A fix for Versus Social matches that could get stuck on the "Waiting for players" screen.
- A fix for Xbox authentication failing when a console's system clock was significantly out of sync.
- A fix for a split-screen sign-out error (internally labeled "Bilefrog-Kalona") after suspending and resuming the game.
- Improved stability when the game accesses online session information.
Campaign, Horde Siege and Versus Fixes
- Fixed War Journal and Forge reward handling for players who join a campaign already in progress.
- Fixed players remaining attached to turrets during cinematic sequences.
- Fixed objective-completion issues in Act 2 Chapter 2, Act 4 Chapter 1, and the Act 4 Chapter 2 Power Station defense.
- Fixed the Siege Blitz Secure objective not completing properly in Horde Siege.
- Fixed the extraction helicopter failing to appear during a Plaza Ruins Blitz mission.
- Fixed a Versus Demolition bug where a bomb could get stuck in a "defusing" state if the defusing player was eliminated mid-action.
Interface Fixes
- Adjusted the text size and appearance of the Online Diagnostic screen.
- Fixed the UI repeatedly trying to claim the same Challenge Mail reward.
Players still running into trouble after installing the patch can file a report through aka.ms/GearsSupport, The Coalition's official support channel. For the systems these fixes touch, our Horde Siege classes and strategy guide is worth a read now that the Blitz objective bugs are cleared up.
4. Season 1 "Emergence" Is Now Live
E-Day's first season, "Emergence," began alongside the early access launch and runs for eight weeks, ending December 1. It includes every map, mode and cosmetic available at launch, plus three limited-time events: a Halloween event, a "20 Years of Gears" anniversary event, and a Thanksgibbing event. The Coalition says each event runs for two weeks and adds its own Versus event mode, a Horde Siege event mission, and exclusive rewards, with specifics to be detailed closer to each event's start.
Two dates are already locked in for everyone, not just early adopters:
- October 13 — Versus Ranked opens, one week after the global launch.
- October 13 — Weekly challenges refresh for the first time since launch.
Outside of those resets, the in-game shop rotates its offers every Tuesday, and anyone who owns specific achievements from Gears of War: Reloaded can unlock tied-in Season 1 rewards. The Coalition hasn't published exact start and end dates for the Halloween, "20 Years of Gears" and Thanksgibbing events yet, so expect more detail as each one approaches over the season's eight-week run. 5. Collector's Edition Support: What to Do If Your Statue Arrived Damaged
Separately from the patch, The Coalition has acknowledged a physical issue affecting some Collector's Edition orders. A small number of customers reported that the included statue arrived with damaged components. The studio says its teams are "actively investigating the issue" and has not announced a resolution timeline, but it has opened support channels for affected buyers.
If your Collector's Edition arrived with a damaged statue or other components:
- North America, UK and EU: submit a support request through the DPI (Development Plus) support form linked from The Coalition's official notice.
- Australia and New Zealand: contact JB Hi-Fi or EB Games support directly, depending on where you ordered.
The Coalition is asking affected customers to go through these channels specifically so it can document how many orders were impacted, rather than relying on social media reports.
6. Quick Tips Recap
- E-Day launched October 6 on Xbox Series X/S, PC and Game Pass — no PS5 version.
- The October 5 day-one patch mainly fixed online stability, a handful of campaign objective bugs, and two Horde Siege Blitz issues.
- Season 1 "Emergence" runs through December 1, with Versus Ranked and weekly challenges both opening October 13.
- Damaged Collector's Edition statues should be reported through DPI support (NA/UK/EU) or your retailer (ANZ), not left unreported.
- General bugs can be filed at aka.ms/GearsSupport.
