Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 — Battle Pass, BlackCell and DMZ X01 Black Site Explained
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 goes live November 6 with a 100-tier Battle Pass, a BlackCell track built around the XERO Operator, and a new DMZ zone called X01 Black Site. Here's every confirmed reward, map, and weapon, straight from Activision's own announcement.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's first full season arrives on November 6, and the headline additions aren't new guns or a new map alone — they're a reworked Battle Pass, a BlackCell bundle with its own exclusive track, and a brand-new DMZ zone called X01 Black Site. Here's exactly what Activision has confirmed is in Season 1, what it costs, and what to expect from the Operator who leads it.
1. When Season 1 goes live
Modern Warfare 4 and Call of Duty: Warzone Season 1 both start at 0000 ET on November 6, 2026 (which is 9 PM PT on November 5), across every platform. The update lands alongside a separate Warzone-focused roadmap post that covers the free-to-play side of the launch in more depth — see our full breakdown of the new Hajin and Zodiac Warzone maps for that half of the update. This piece focuses on what's new in the Battle Pass, BlackCell, DMZ, and core multiplayer.
2. The Season 1 Battle Pass: tiers and rewards
Season 1 ships a linear 100-tier Battle Pass with more than 100 unlockable rewards, including new Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, Finishing Moves, Calling Cards, Charms, and Reticles. The standard Battle Pass costs 1,100 COD Points, while a Battle Pass Bundle is available for 2,400 COD Points.
- Catch-up system: Premium Battle Pass owners who fall behind are automatically caught up to the current day's reward (up to day 50), which Activision says guarantees at least 50 rewards even for late starters.
- Instant premium rewards: buying the Battle Pass immediately grants a 10% Battle Pass XP boost, up to 1,100 COD Points back, the "Downpour" Blix Operator skin, the "Fortune's Favor" FiNN LMG Blueprint, the "Happy Boom" Sticky Grenade Blueprint, the "Killing Demon" sticker, and a DMZ Survival Kit.
- Full completion rewards: finishing all 100 tiers also unlocks the "Vantage" Blix skin, the "Blue Viper" Hyeon Burst Blueprint, 200 COD Points, a calling card, an emblem, and a second DMZ Survival Kit.
- Tier 100: the final reward is the "Bellum," an Ultra-rarity Mosin-Nagant Assault Rifle Blueprint.
- Eight additional Operator Skins unlock later in the season for players who've completed the premium track.
3. BlackCell: what's exclusive to it
BlackCell returns as the premium-of-premium tier. It's included automatically for anyone who owns the Vault Edition of Modern Warfare 4, and Digital Standard owners can upgrade to Vault Edition on whichever platform they originally bought the game.
BlackCell's own track includes the XERO Operator (with "Cowled" and "Adder" skin variants unlocked through challenges), another 1,100 COD Points, the "Perimeter Lance" M4 Signature Weapon Blueprint with two unlockable variants, the "Dog Food" Companion Finishing Move, a lobby scene, a Mastery Camo track, 20 Tier Skip Tokens, a DMZ Survival Pack, and a clan tag. On top of that, BlackCell owners get seven additional skins (two for returning Operator Blix, plus Oh-Ji, Velikan, Min-Hee, Luca, and Dallas) and seven more Weapon Blueprints.
4. New DMZ zone: X01 Black Site
Season 1's DMZ update is built around X01, described by Activision as a "Black Site" — a former GRANIT Arms facility sitting on the edge of the new Hajin location, now held by hostile forces. It's built from cargo bays, vehicle depots, underground labs, production lines, and a sealed area called the Deep Vault.
Opposition inside X01 includes around 100 Spirits NK Faction troops and specialists, along with tougher threats the developer has only teased as "classified" for now. A guide role called Watcher, filled by series character Ghost, leads squads through a new set of DMZ Orders tied to the site, and extraction points close progressively as a raid continues — Activision's advice is to always know your nearest open exfil.
The update also adds two named threats to the DMZ Boss Board: lieutenants Tae-Hyun ("Knuckle") and Chol-Min ("The Wrench"), plus commander-tier targets The Captain (a Juggernaut with an elite guard) and Wheelson, an autonomous patrol unit. New limited events include Threat Briefing: Battle Tank at Hajin, where squads collect one tank part per deployment, Threat Briefing: The Captain at X01 itself, and Resupply Run, which trades point-of-interest items for gear like Self Revives and 3-Plate Carriers. The Forward Operating Base also grows: a new Battle Pass/Store Station, a Vendor that takes DMZ Cash (for Season 1 BlackCell holders), and a 3D Printer whose full function hasn't been detailed yet. This builds directly on the Boss Board system added earlier this fall.
5. New and returning multiplayer maps
Four 6v6 core maps anchor Season 1's multiplayer side. Two are brand new, one is reworked, and one is a remaster of a franchise staple.
- Backstab — a brand-new medium 6v6 map, live at launch.
- Canyon — also new at launch; Activision describes it as sun-scorched terrain hemmed in by towering rock walls, with a river running through it and a Convoy Ambush point along the way.
- Shoot House — the series staple returns reimagined for Season 1.
- Shipment — the classic small container-yard map, remastered and set on a Russian harbor, arrived slightly ahead of the season on October 27.
Two more maps, Ministry and Overflow, are confirmed for a mid-season drop, alongside further maps Activision hasn't named yet. On the mode side, Season 1 launches with Grind, Drop Zone, and a Gauntlet 1v1 variant tied to a Wager Match event, while a new Kill Block feature adds static slabs to Crash (plus other playlists, including Search and Destroy) to change common sightlines. Counter Attack and a new Team Deathmatch variant are scheduled for mid-season as well. Two Halloween-themed modes, Possession and Infected, already arrived ahead of the season on October 29 and 30 — see our coverage of Possession mode's October debut for how that played out.
6. New weapon and attachments
Season 1 also adds the Cronen Osprey, a 5.56 assault rifle Activision bills as having a best-in-class fire rate of 882 RPM without sacrificing control, accuracy, or mobility, with a 30-round magazine and 90-round reserve by default. It pairs with the Cronen Helix Mk. II, an Apex attachment that converts the rifle into a dual-fire platform, firing on both the trigger pull and release, which boosts magazine capacity to 60 (+30) rounds and reserve ammo to 120 (+30).
7. How this fits into the bigger picture
Season 1 is the first full seasonal update since Modern Warfare 4 replaced Black Ops 7 as the current premium entry, following Treyarch's send-off for Black Ops 7 last month. Legacy content — specific Operators, skins, weapons, and blueprints earned in Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6, and Black Ops 7 — carries forward and stays usable in Warzone, though Activision hasn't published a full eligibility list yet, so don't assume everything transfers automatically until you check your own loadout in-game after the update.
