World of Warcraft: Forever Launches Today: The Skyborne, New Zones and Everything Explained
World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026, reviving the original continents with the new Skyborne race, four new zones, nine dungeons and a full transmog and graphics overhaul. Here's everything Blizzard has confirmed for launch day and what's still coming in December.
World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST (23:00 UTC), and it is the biggest change Blizzard has made to the original continents of Azeroth since the game's 2004 debut. The experience is set after the events of the Warcraft III: Reforged – Forsaken Kingdom campaign and before Molten Core opens, with a level cap of 60. Blizzard has described Forever as an ongoing, permanent home for players who want the original world rather than a limited-time Classic server – a new race, four new zones, more than 1,000 quests, nine dungeons and two raids are only the start of its post-launch plan.
Here is everything Blizzard has confirmed so far: what's new on day one, exactly when it unlocks wherever you live, and what still has to wait until December.
1. What Is World of Warcraft: Forever?
World of Warcraft: Forever is Blizzard's new take on vanilla-style World of Warcraft, built on the original continents rather than a modern expansion zone. It runs alongside retail World of Warcraft rather than replacing it, and access is included with an active WoW Subscription or Game Time – there is no separate box purchase required just to log in and play the base experience. Players who have spent years on more systems-heavy live-service RPGs, the kind covered in our breakdown of Genshin Impact's elemental reaction system, will recognize the appeal of going back to something simpler: a flat 1-60 climb through zones most WoW players already know by heart, now with new content stitched into the map.
2. Launch Time: When Forever Goes Live Where You Are
Forever unlocks for every region at the same instant – 23:00 UTC on November 4, 2026 – which lands at a different local time and date depending on where you live. Blizzard's own schedule lists:
- Los Angeles (PST): 3:00 p.m., November 4
- New York (EST): 6:00 p.m., November 4
- São Paulo (BRT): 8:00 p.m., November 4
- London (GMT): 11:00 p.m., November 4
- Paris (CET): 12:00 a.m., November 5
- Ankara (TRT): 2:00 a.m., November 5
- Abu Dhabi (GST): 3:00 a.m., November 5
- Cape Town (SAST): 1:00 a.m., November 5
- Taipei (CST): 7:00 a.m., November 5
- Seoul (KST): 8:00 a.m., November 5
- Sydney (AEDT): 10:00 a.m., November 5
If your city isn't on that list, count forward from 23:00 UTC using your usual time zone offset – the servers all flip over together, worldwide.
3. The Skyborne: Forever's New Playable Race
The headline new feature is the Skyborne, a new playable race also referred to as the shen'dorei. Skyborne characters begin their journey on Zephras Isle, a dedicated starting zone that covers levels 1 through 12 before funneling into the wider world. Horde players who pick the Skyborne can become Windshaper Shamans, while Alliance players can train as High-Order Skyborne Mages – giving both factions a distinct class identity tied to the new race rather than a simple reskin.
Unlike the base Forever experience, playing as a Skyborne requires one of the paid upgrade packs described in the editions section below; it is not included with a plain subscription or Game Time.
4. New Zones and the 1,000+ Quest Campaign
Blizzard counts three brand-new zones beyond the Skyborne's own starting area: Mount Hyjal, Shen'dralas, and the Riverglades, with the path through Mount Hyjal running via Darkwhisper Gorge. Across the full 1-60 journey, Blizzard says Forever adds more than 1,000 new quests, woven into both the new zones and the classic leveling route players already know.
If you're coming back after years away, it's worth treating the opening hours like any other fresh start in a big live-service world – the same way our recap of Roblox's recent platform-wide changes walks through what's actually different versus what just sounds unfamiliar after a long break.
5. Nine Dungeons Now, Two Raids in December
At launch, Forever adds nine new five-player dungeons spread across levels 13 through 60. Blizzard has not published the full list of dungeon names on its main announcement page, pointing players instead to a separate, more detailed preview for that breakdown.
Raid content follows a few weeks later: three raids for level 60 characters – Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit, and Onyxia's Lair – are scheduled to open on December 9, 2026. That gives players roughly five weeks to level up, gear out in the new dungeons, and get ready before the first serious endgame content arrives.
6. Classic or Enhanced: Choosing Your Look
On first login, Forever asks players to pick an overall experience preset: Classic, which uses the original Standard Definition character models, or Enhanced, which uses newer High Definition models. That choice isn't permanent or account-wide – every character can have its own SD or HD model set individually, and the choice can be changed later from the Options Menu or at a Barbershop.
Transmog is tied to the same preset: it's off by default under the Classic preset and on by default under Enhanced, though either can be toggled manually once you're in the game.
7. Rulesets: Normal, PvP, Roleplay and Roleplay PvP
Before you create a character, Forever also asks you to choose a gameplay ruleset, and the choice matters more than a simple settings toggle: you can only interact with other players who picked the same ruleset.
- Normal – focused on adventuring and PvE, with optional PvP only when you choose to flag for it.
- PvP – focused on player-versus-player combat; you're almost always at risk of being attacked by opposing players.
- Roleplay – strict naming conventions and behavior rules for players who want to stay in character in a fantasy-based world.
- Roleplay PvP – the same roleplay naming and behavior rules, combined with the open PvP risk of the PvP ruleset.
8. Editions and How to Get Access
The core Forever experience is included with a standard WoW Subscription or Game Time, but playing the Skyborne race and picking up launch cosmetics requires one of the packs sold through the Battle.net Shop:
- Skyborne Heroic Pack: unlocks the Skyborne race and Zephras Isle, an Early Name Reservation, the Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount (its riding skill is bought separately in-game), cosmetics and housing decor, plus one Invite-A-Friend Launch Code.
- Skyborne Epic Pack: everything in the Heroic Pack, plus 30 days of Game Time starting November 4, additional cosmetics, pets and tabards, and three Invite-A-Friend Launch Codes.
- Warcraft Forever Collection (limited-time): everything in the Epic Pack, plus Warcraft III: Reforged and its Forsaken Kingdom campaign, along with Forsaken and Human Figurine housing decor usable in modern World of Warcraft.
- Collector's Edition: a physical edition sold separately through the Blizzard Gear Store while supplies last.
Blizzard hasn't listed exact pricing for every pack on its main announcement page, so check the Battle.net Shop directly before buying.
9. Quick Tips Before You Log In
- Servers go live worldwide at 23:00 UTC on November 4 – use the regional times above to know exactly when that hits for you.
- Decide on a ruleset first: Normal, PvP, Roleplay and Roleplay PvP players can't group, trade or interact with each other at all.
- You don't need a special pack to play Forever itself – just an active subscription or Game Time – but you do need the Skyborne Heroic or Epic Pack to play the new race.
- Pick Classic or Enhanced for the overall look on your first login, then fine-tune individual characters later at the Barbershop if you change your mind.
- Nine dungeons are available from day one; the first raids – Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair – don't open until December 9.
For players weighing Forever against other major games launching this month, it's worth noting how different the two approaches are: our coverage of Genshin Impact's latest version update shows a live-service game adding a handful of new characters and a story chapter, while Forever is reworking the foundation of a two-decade-old world. Both are worth a look if you're deciding where to spend your time this week.
