Pokémon GO's autumn calendar just kicked into gear. Harvest Festival 2026: Applin Picking went live on September 29 with the game's first-ever Shiny Applin, and it rolls straight into a Team GO Rocket takeover built around rescuing a Shadow Zekrom from Giovanni. Here's every date, reward, and encounter confirmed on the official Pokémon GO site, plus how the whole thing slots into the ongoing Twilight Trails season.

1. Harvest Festival Dates: Two Events Back to Back

The event unfolds in two connected phases, both confirmed on the official Pokémon GO news page:

• Harvest Festival: Applin Picking — Tuesday, September 29, at 10:00 a.m. to Monday, October 5, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. local time.
• Harvest Festival: Taken Over (Team GO Rocket phase) — Friday, October 2, at 12:00 a.m. to Monday, October 5, 2026, at 8:00 p.m. local time, with GO Pass rewards claimable until Wednesday, October 7, at 8:00 p.m. local time.

In other words, the standard apple-picking event and the Rocket takeover overlap for the event's final three days, so trainers get both storylines running at once from October 2 through October 5.

2. Shiny Applin's Debut and the Wild Encounters

The headline feature is a first: Shiny Applin can now appear in Pokémon GO. Niantic confirmed it plainly on the event page — "for the first time in Pokémon GO, you'll be able to encounter Shiny Applin—if you're lucky!" Applin itself remains an uncommon wild spawn during the event rather than a guaranteed encounter, so persistence (and a healthy number of Poké Balls) matters more than any specific trick.

Alongside Applin, the event bumps up the odds of finding Shiny Smoliv, and standard wild spawns during Harvest Festival include Skwovet, Lechonk, Smoliv, and Applin itself. Trainers who use Mossy Lure Modules during the event can also attract a Cottonee wearing a seasonal flower crown, a cosmetic touch tied specifically to this event's lure encounters.

If you're stocking up on apple-family Pokémon for the first time, it's worth checking your own collection progress against what the game already tracks — the event doesn't reset any existing Applin-line records, it just adds a new Shiny variant to the pool.

3. GO Pass and GO Pass Deluxe: Every Reward Tier

Harvest Festival uses the GO Pass system, Niantic's seasonal event progression track. There are three tiers:

• GO Pass — free for every trainer.
• GO Pass Deluxe — $4.99.
• GO Pass Deluxe + 6 Ranks — $6.99, which unlocks Deluxe and instantly bumps your rank by six.

Completing Pass Tasks raises your GO Pass rank, and every rank pays out rewards. On the free track those include encounters with event-themed Pokémon, Tart Apples, Sweet Apples or Syrupy Apples, a Mossy Lure Module, and a Super Rocket Radar — the item that matters most once the Team GO Rocket phase begins (more on that below). Upgrading to GO Pass Deluxe adds extra encounters with event Pokémon plus more Apples, Mossy Lure Modules, and Super Rocket Radars on top of the free-tier rewards.

Three specific bonuses also unlock at set ranks: Rank 1 gives Applin an increased chance to hold a Tart, Sweet, or Syrupy Apple when caught; Rank 10 makes Mossy Lure Modules activated during the event last a full hour instead of the usual 30 minutes; and Rank 20 increases Stardust earned from defeating Team GO Rocket Grunts and Leaders.

There's also Branching Timed Research tied to the event, which lets you choose which Apple type — Tart, Sweet, or Syrupy — you want as a reward, rather than receiving a random assortment.

4. Team GO Rocket Takes Over: Rescuing Shadow Zekrom

Starting October 2, Harvest Festival: Taken Over layers a Team GO Rocket storyline on top of the apple-picking event. The core hook: a Shadow Zekrom needs rescuing, and getting to it runs through Giovanni himself.

The mechanic works like this — complete GO Pass: Harvest Festival tasks to earn a Super Rocket Radar, which is the only way to locate and confront Giovanni during this event, and he can only be found at PokéStops. Reach him, beat his team, and you get the shot at the Shadow Zekrom rescue. Rewards from the GO Pass, including any Super Rocket Radars still owed to you, can be claimed through Wednesday, October 7, at 8:00 p.m. local time — two days after the event itself ends, so there's a small grace window to cash in unclaimed rank rewards.

The takeover phase brings its own bonuses and encounters. Team GO Rocket Grunts and their balloons show up more frequently at PokéStops, and there's an increased chance of a Shiny Slugma encounter. Wild spawns during this window include Koffing, Slugma, Numel, and — less commonly — Magmar. Defeating Grunts can net you Shadow Wimpod, Shadow Fomantis, or Shadow Sandygast for rescue. A Charged TM can also be used during the event to help a Shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration, and Shadow Pokémon caught from Shadow Raids during this window come with better guaranteed stat variance than usual.

One more first debuts here too: Shiny Shroodle can now hatch from Eggs for the first time in Pokémon GO, making this a two-Shiny-debut event once both phases are counted together.

5. How Harvest Festival Fits Into the Twilight Trails Season

Harvest Festival is running inside Pokémon GO's current season, Twilight Trails, which started September 8 at 10:00 a.m. and continues through December 1, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. local time. The season's own additions are separate from the Harvest Festival rewards but worth knowing if you're planning your October around the game: more Paldea-region Pokémon are debuting, including Maschiff and its evolution Mabosstiff, and Mega Evolution is expanding to include Staraptor and Chandelure. Dynamax Rhyhorn, Dynamax Sneasel, and Dynamax Sizzlipede have also joined the Dynamax roster, with Dynamax Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf reserved for a dedicated Max Battle Day later in the season.

Community Days for Twilight Trails are set for September 12 (a Community Day Classic), October 10, and November 21, so if Harvest Festival gets you back into daily spawns, there's a bigger event landing just five days after this one wraps up. • Prioritize GO Pass Tasks early — Rank 20's Stardust bonus and the Super Rocket Radar payouts are worth more the sooner you're set up for the Rocket takeover starting October 2.
• Don't spend all your Poké Balls chasing Applin itself; it's an uncommon spawn, and the apples you get from other event Pokémon feed directly into the Branching Timed Research choice.
• Stock Mossy Lure Modules before October 5 if you're rank 10 or higher on the GO Pass — the extended one-hour duration bonus only applies for the remainder of the event.
• Remember Giovanni can only be found at PokéStops during this event, and only once you've earned a Super Rocket Radar — Team GO Rocket balloons and Grunts won't lead you to him directly.
