NBA 2K27: The City Explained — Crew HQ, Casual Corner, Street Kings and Every New Hub Feature
NBA 2K27's The City adds the series' first-ever co-ed hub, a dedicated Crew HQ for squad play, and a beginner-friendly Casual Corner. Here's what each new area does and how to get into it.
NBA 2K27's version of The City is built around three changes nobody had seen in the mode before: male and female MyPLAYERs sharing the same courts, a dedicated headquarters for organized squads, and a genuinely low-stakes door in for players who have never touched online Pro-Am. 2K and developer Visual Concepts walked through the overhaul in an official "Courtside Report," and the result is a hub with more distinct spaces than any previous City.
Here's what each new area in NBA 2K27's The City actually does, how you get into it, and what it replaces from last year.
1. The City's First Co-Ed Rosters
For the first time in the franchise, male and female MyPLAYERs compete side by side across every multiplayer mode in The City. According to Visual Concepts, all MyPLAYERs are built on the exact same framework — height, wingspan, badges and attribute ratings come entirely from your build, not your character's appearance, so there's no competitive gap between a male and female MyPLAYER with identical builds. Female MyPLAYERs get their own wardrobe of thousands of apparel options, from streetwear to WNBA gear, but they're a City-only experience; if you want a WNBA career specifically, that still runs through The W.
Every game-enhancing reward in The City, including the MyPOINTS Accelerator, is earned by all MyPLAYERs regardless of which roster you're running. If you're still working out which MyPLAYER build to take into the co-ed City, it's worth reading through our full breakdown of MyCAREER Eras and the MyPLAYER Builder before you commit VC to an archetype.
2. Crew HQ: A Real Home Base for Squads
Crew HQ is the headline new facility in The City — a team-based counterpart to your individual MyCOURT. It's a dedicated space where a full squad can practice, scrimmage and compete without having to track opponents down across the open map.
What's inside
- Built-in voice chat for calling plays with your squad
- Practice courts covering 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3 half courts, plus full 3v3 and 5v5 courts
- Ranked Crew Games across six competitive tiers, from Bronze up to Top Ranked, with divisional tournaments at the end of each season
- A Squad Showdown Kiosk for hosting private runs and league play outside ranked matchmaking
- Crew progression that launches with 40 levels, with five more levels added every season starting in Season 2
Crew HQ's uniform and logo system also gets a permanent display spot — every member's jersey hangs in the HQ's rafters once they've joined, which is a small touch but it's the first time a Crew has had a physical "home" inside The City rather than just a leaderboard entry.
3. Casual Corner: Built for Players Who Aren't Ready for Pro-Am
Casual Corner is a new, optional hub aimed squarely at players who find the rest of The City intimidating. It runs 3v3 and 5v5 games across five skill tiers — Casual (CPU opponents only), Hooper (a mix of CPU and human players), Baller (human opponents), then Pro and MVP/Hall of Fame — so new players move from PvE competition into full player-versus-player runs gradually instead of getting thrown straight into ranked Pro-Am lobbies.
If your build still needs work before you're ready to test it against humans, our guide to Badge Tokens and the Synergy system covers how to actually unlock the badges that make a difference once you step up out of Casual Corner.
4. Street Kings and Court Crashers
Street Kings returns as The City's premier 3v3 tournament mode, and this year it runs across three courts: The Hollows, Claremont Court, and a faithfully recreated Rucker Park. The weekly format opens with a seeded play-in round, moves into a best-of-five bracket, and ends with a single-elimination championship game played to 21.
Watch for Court Crashers during any Street Kings game — at a random point, a legendary boss player can show up and take over the court, with premium rewards attached to beating them.
5. The REC, The Theatre and Ante-Up All Changed Locations
Three existing venues got reworked rather than replaced. The REC now rotates between five different environments each game — High School Gym, Outdoor Court, Private Gym, Crowded Arena, and a Season-themed venue — so no two REC runs look identical. The Theatre has moved from its old setting to an outdoor city block, and Ante-Up has relocated to a rooftop court with an infinity edge overlooking the skyline.
For anyone deciding whether to chase wagers at Ante-Up or grind Takeover abilities in regular games instead, it's worth reading what changed in the Dynamic Dunk Meter and Takeover system — contested shots and dunks behave differently than they did at launch.
6. Seasonal Parks and Starting 5
Seasonal Parks bring four brand-new outdoor locations into rotation, alongside HD remasters of classic parks from 2K17. Triple Threat Park specifically reimagines last year's Skyline Park from NBA 2K26, now set at night with a number of gameplay enhancements.
Starting 5 is a new board-game-style progression track with 16 game slots to work through, and it splits into two separate paths: one built around men's NBA team rosters, the other around women's Archetype and Icon rosters. You'll see its globe-shaped marker sitting at the center of The City's main plaza, next to the entrances for MyCOURT, Proving Grounds and the rest of the hub's core venues.
7. Daily Rivals, Player Medals and Doubled REP
Daily Rivals groups you with 39 other players by skill level and play frequency, and every game you play shifts the daily standings. Just showing up earns a reward, and finishing in the top three earns a Rivals Ticket — one of the rarer ways to get premium swag in the game.
Player Medals are a new achievement layer on top of that: nearly 300 unlockable medals across five tiers, from Beginner up to Elite & Mastery, earned by completing Lifetime Challenges or hitting stat milestones across any game mode. They're displayable in your pre-game lineup card, so they double as a visible flex before tip-off.
REP itself also got an overhaul — NBA 2K27 has 40 REP tiers, and 2K says players earn double the rewards over the same stretch of time compared to last year. If you're deciding how to spend the VC and rewards that come out of all this, our rundown of Season 1's rewards ladder and Pro Pass is a useful next stop.
8. NBA 2K HQ: The New Companion App
Launched August 21, 2026, ahead of NBA 2K27's early access window, NBA 2K HQ is a mobile companion app built around staying connected to your Crew away from the console or PC. It supports real-time messaging and roster management, and it continuously tracks Daily Leaderboards and Crew Rewards so you're not locked out of progress when you're not playing.
The app also lets you build and edit MyPLAYERs from your phone, upload finished builds straight to your home setup, and share them with friends through a QR code or link. It includes mobile-exclusive daily login rewards that carry back to console, and an improved Face Scan tool that's faster and produces higher-fidelity textures than the previous scanning process.
Quick Tips
- New to online play? Start in Casual Corner rather than jumping straight into Pro-Am — its tiered matchmaking is designed specifically to ease you in.
- Running with a regular squad? Set up your Crew early so you can start climbing the six ranked tiers and banking Crew XP toward those extra progression levels arriving in Season 2.
- Check Daily Rivals every day it resets — the reward for simply participating is free value, and a top-three finish is the most reliable path to a Rivals Ticket.
- Remember that female MyPLAYERs are a City-exclusive build; if your goal is a WNBA franchise career specifically, that's handled through The W instead.
