Quick Summary

NBA 2K27's MyNBA mode just got its most detailed makeover yet: a new GM Trust reputation system, modern CBA contract rules including the Second Apron and 10-day deals, a revamped Rule Change Engine and the 100-year MyNBA Legacy mode. Here's what 2K's own Back to Basics overhaul actually changes.

NBA 2K27's franchise mode just got its biggest overhaul in years. 2K's "Back to Basics" update for MyNBA introduces a new GM Trust reputation system, rebuilds contracts around the NBA's modern Collective Bargaining Agreement rules, and adds a 100-year single-player legacy mode on top of more than 20 community-requested fixes. Here is exactly what changed, straight from 2K's own newsroom reveal, and what it means for anyone running a franchise in MyNBA.

1. What's New in NBA 2K27's MyNBA Mode

2K's MyNBA producer Jeff Schrader framed the update as a response to how the real NBA has changed off the court as much as on it. In 2K's official announcement, Schrader said:

"The NBA is constantly evolving and our franchise players are tuned in to every change. From four-team trades, buyout market, the CBA's Second Apron, and modern free agency negotiations, and so much more, we have meticulously represented the league's updates as we get back to basics on the core of the mode."

That statement covers the shape of the whole update: contract and trade rules pulled from the real CBA, a reputation system that holds general managers accountable for the promises they make, and a long list of roster-management fixes the MyNBA community has been asking for.

2. GM Trust: Your Reputation Is Now on the Line

The centerpiece of the update is GM Trust, a new rating that follows a general manager across every MyNBA save. Per 2K's newsroom post, "across all MyNBA modes, a dynamic GM Trust rating governs how believable a player's promises are in free agency" and that same rating "directly impacts locker room morale."

In practice, that means the promises you make during free-agent recruiting — about playing time, roster moves, or how long a player will stay a priority — are no longer just flavor text. Hands-on previews of the build 2K showed press describe GM Trust rising when a GM re-signs its own free agents and honors the extensions it hands out, and falling when a GM reneges on a promise or trades away a player who was just given a long-term deal. A low GM Trust rating makes star free agents skeptical of a team's pitches, which can force a GM to overpay in guaranteed money just to get a meeting.

Because GM Trust also feeds into locker room morale, a front office that burns bridges with players doesn't just struggle in free agency — it can poison the mood inside its own roster too.

3. CBA Contract Rules: Second Apron, 10-Day Deals and the Moratorium Period

MyNBA's contract system was rebuilt around the NBA's current Collective Bargaining Agreement. The headline additions, confirmed in 2K's reveal, are:

  • Second Apron trade restrictions and improved First Apron effects, which limit what high-spending teams can do in trades.
  • Limited 10-day contracts, available in both the NBA and the WNBA side of the mode.
  • Performance-based incentives in contracts that are graded as Guaranteed, Likely, or Unlikely, which then affects how much of that money counts against the cap.
  • A brand-new Moratorium Period menu that lets a GM pitch marquee free agents — with binding promises about roster moves, incentives and loyalty — before the official signing period opens.

The apron rules in particular mirror the real NBA's current luxury-tax structure, where teams that spend heavily into the Second Apron face hard trade restrictions. Modeling that in MyNBA means big-market, high-payroll rebuilds now carry the same real-world handcuffs that front offices like the Suns or Bucks have dealt with.

4. Back to Basics: Trades, Buyouts and the Community-Requested Fixes

2K says the update ships with more than 20 roster and league-management changes requested directly by the MyNBA community. The confirmed additions include:

  • Four-team trades that allow up to nine assets per trade, plus cash considerations.
  • A new Buyout Market for negotiating contract buyouts with veterans on expiring deals.
  • Eurostash contracts for international prospects, rebuilt from the ground up.
  • The NBA Cup now appearing in player and staff career histories.
  • Updated All-Star Weekend formats.
  • A new 3-2-1 draft lottery structure.
  • A Clutch Player of the Year award.
  • New playoff series formats.

None of this is flashy on its own, but it is the list MyNBA players have been asking 2K to fix for several release cycles — particularly the trade logic and the lack of a buyout market, which forced awkward workarounds in past games.

5. Team Dynamics: Dynamic Duos, Big 3s and Locker Room Morale

MyNBA's morale system has been rebuilt as "Team Dynamics," which tracks friendships, rivalries and personality traits across a roster over time. Shared history on a team builds bonds, while repeated early playoff exits together can create lasting grudges between teammates.

Two players with a high Friendship rating can form a Dynamic Duo, and three elite-friendship stars together form a Big 3 — both of which carry in-game benefits tied back to the same morale system that GM Trust feeds into.

6. The Rule Change Engine

MyNBA's offseason League Meetings have been expanded into a full Rule Change Engine. Front offices around the league can now propose, review and vote on an unlimited number of offseason rule changes, each with its own custom sliders and context — things like adjusting the rookie wage scale, resizing the Rising Stars Challenge, or changing how many seconds define a key violation. Every proposal needs a set number of league votes to pass, and the results screen shows exactly how each franchise voted.

It's a small system on paper, but it is the clearest sign of how far 2K pushed the "league feels alive" idea this year — rule changes genuinely reshape the league you're playing in over a long MyNBA save, the same way real CBA negotiations reshape the NBA every few years.

7. MyNBA Legacy and Draft Class Playlists

Alongside the standard franchise mode, 2K is introducing MyNBA Legacy, a single-player, player-locked RPG mode that spans 100 years. You control one Legend — any active star, a prospect, or a Created Player — and can choose to keep their current attributes or revert them to rookie form for a longer career arc. Performance Points, earned through stat goals and playoff runs, drive progression, and when a Legend's career ends, a descendant inherits that player's rookie profile as a template, along with hereditary traits and permanent bonuses that carry across the family tree.

For a closer look at how that century-spanning save structure actually works, our full breakdown of MyNBA Legacy's 100-year dynasty covers the Legend system and free-agency overhaul in more depth.

2K also added Draft Class Playlists, which let you build a custom sequence of historic draft classes — spanning decades, with loop, shuffle and reverse options — so a long MyNBA save doesn't have to cycle through the same randomized rookies every year.

Quick Tips Recap

  • Keep the promises you make to free agents during the new Moratorium Period — breaking them tanks your GM Trust rating and makes future recruiting harder.
  • Watch your payroll near the Second Apron before chasing a big trade; the restrictions there now mirror the real NBA's toughest tax rules.
  • Re-signing your own free agents and honoring extensions is the fastest way to build GM Trust back up.
  • Use the Buyout Market instead of releasing expiring veterans outright if you want to retain some value from the move.
  • If you want a true multi-generational save, start a MyNBA Legacy file rather than a standard franchise — it's built specifically for that 100-year arc.
