Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD Is Out Now: Release Date, Price and What's New Explained
Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD launched September 24, 2026 on Steam, iOS and Android as a prequel set before Vez'nan turned dark. Here's the release date, price, tower/hero/spell counts and what's new in Ironhide's sixth tower defense entry.
Ironhide Game Studio’s tower defense series has a new entry as of today. Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD launched worldwide on September 24, 2026 for PC via Steam, plus iOS and Android, and it takes the story all the way back to the beginning of the kingdom of Linirea — long before Vez’nan became the villain the series is built around. Here is what actually shipped: the setting, the numbers behind the towers and heroes, where to get it, and what to expect if you are jumping into the series for the first time.
1. Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis TD Launches Today
Genesis is the sixth mainline game in the Kingdom Rush franchise, and Ironhide confirmed the September 24 launch date alongside a playable Steam demo and open mobile pre-orders earlier this year. The studio summed up the effort in its own launch announcement: “Every artist, designer, programmer, member of our marketing team, tester and countless others have worked their hearts out to bring this adventure to life.”
The game is live now on Steam, the Apple App Store and Google Play. A free demo covering an early slice of the campaign is also available on Steam for anyone who wants to try the tower placements and hero abilities before buying.

2. A Prequel Story: Before Vez’nan Turned Dark
Genesis is a prequel. Instead of continuing the fight against the established Kingdom Rush villains, it sends players back to “the very beginning of the Kingdom,” to a time when Linirea’s best-known heroes were ordinary people and a young Vez’nan had not yet fallen to darkness. The framing, per Ironhide, is to “rewrite history” and stop him before that turn happens — while still keeping what the studio calls its “signature Kingdom Rush humor” running through the campaign.
It is a familiar structure for the franchise — Kingdom Rush has told side stories and origin chapters before — but Genesis is positioned as the deepest look yet at how Linirea’s war against darkness actually started, using battlefields and characters longtime players will recognize in earlier, rawer forms.

3. Three Landscapes: The Citadel, Stormcloud Depths and Arcania
The campaign is built around three distinct landscapes, according to Ironhide’s own listing: the Citadel, Stormcloud Depths and Arcania. Each pulls from a different corner of Linirea’s geography — open countryside and fortified strongholds, subterranean and cloud-bound depths, and the stranger, more magical Arcania stages glimpsed in the released screenshots, including underground temple ruins and a snow-dusted ancient shrine.

4. Towers, Heroes and Spells: The Numbers
Genesis ships with a larger roster than a typical Kingdom Rush launch. Ironhide’s Steam listing confirms:
- 15 upgradeable towers, each with its own special abilities and an individual upgrade path
- 12 epic heroes, released two per campaign stage as players progress
- 9 powerful spells for turning the tide during boss waves or overrun lanes
- Global tower customization that carries between stages, rather than resetting each level
That is a noticeably deeper toolkit than the series’ earlier entries offered at launch, and it lines up with the “bold new twists” on classic tower defense that Ironhide has been advertising for Genesis since the reveal.

5. 18 Stages, Six Bosses and Five Ways to Play Each One
The campaign itself runs 18 handcrafted stages, each described by Ironhide as having its own unique mechanics rather than reused layouts. Across those stages, players face more than 40 enemy types split across five factions, building up to six colossal boss encounters. There are also more than 50 achievements to chase for players who want to fully clear the campaign rather than just finish it.
Notably, each stage supports five separate game modes, including a “Classic Rush” option that recreates the original 2011 Kingdom Rush ruleset — a direct nod for players who grew up on the first game and want that stricter, earlier balance rather than Genesis’s expanded kit.

6. Price and Platforms
Pricing differs by storefront. On Steam, Genesis launched at $17.99, a 10% introductory discount off its regular $19.99 price that Ironhide has said runs through October 8. On mobile, the App Store listing shows Genesis at $6.99 with in-app purchases, developer-credited to Ironhide S.A., the studio’s legal entity. System requirements on PC are modest — Ironhide lists Windows 10 or macOS 10.13 as the floor, with a quad-core CPU, 8GB of RAM and roughly 3GB of storage, so it is not a demanding install on either platform.
7. Tips If You Are Starting Genesis Cold
If this is your first Kingdom Rush game, a few things carry across the whole series and hold true here based on what Ironhide has confirmed about Genesis’s systems:
- Don’t sink every coin into one tower type. With 15 towers on offer, mixing melee blockers, ranged damage and a support or magic tower per lane tends to cover more enemy types than stacking one kind.
- Use your two heroes deliberately. Each stage introduces two of the game’s 12 heroes, and since they have their own upgrade trees, repositioning them to the lane under the most pressure — rather than leaving them static — matters more than in tower-only defense games.
- Save spells for boss waves. With only 9 spells and six colossal bosses confirmed in the campaign, holding a charge back for those fights rather than clearing trash waves with it is worth the patience.
- Try Classic Rush mode if the newer systems feel overwhelming. It strips Genesis back to 2011-era Kingdom Rush rules, which is a gentler on-ramp before tackling the full modern kit on a later replay.
- Play the free Steam demo first if you are on the fence. It is pulled from the actual early campaign, not a standalone tech demo, so it is a fair read on whether the pacing suits you before spending on either platform.
