Quick Summary

EA has published its first EA Sports FC 27 Launch Feedback Update, addressing community complaints about manual defending difficulty, FUT Champions matchmaking, excessive Career Mode transfer requests, fullback positioning and Kickabouts matchmaking in The Grounds. Here's what's already fixed, and what EA is still investigating.

On October 13, 2026, EA published its first EA Sports FC 27 Launch Feedback Update, a status report on the biggest complaints players have raised since the game went worldwide on September 25. It covers five specific community flashpoints — manual defending difficulty, FUT Champions matchmaking, Career Mode transfer requests, fullback positioning and Kickabouts matchmaking in The Grounds — and recaps the four Developer Launch Updates EA published the week before.

Here is exactly what EA said, what has already been fixed, and what is still being monitored or investigated.

1. What the Launch Feedback Update Covers

EA says it has been tracking player reaction across Discord, the in-game Player Feedback Portal, EA Forums, Steam and social media since launch. The new update is split into two parts: a direct response to five specific pieces of community feedback, and a recap of the four Developer Launch Updates (Gameplay, Career Mode, FUT and The Grounds) that EA's teams published the previous week.

2. Manual Defending: The Learning Curve EA Is Watching

The most-discussed topic since launch has been how hard manual defending feels. FC 27 intentionally reduced reliance on automated teammate defending, giving players more direct control over anticipation, positioning and tackle timing.

EA says its own match data shows a genuine learning curve: players who have adjusted to the new defensive mechanics are already seeing more success, while others are still adapting. EA's stated position is that it will keep watching both the data and the feedback as more players get used to the system, rather than making an immediate change.

For background on how this system works alongside transfers and squad building, our deep dive on the Transfer Market and Dynamic OVR covers the wider mechanical changes EA made for this edition.

3. FUT Champions Matchmaking: The Fix That's Already Live

Unlike the defending feedback, this one already has a resolution. Players reported that matchmaking during the first FUT Champions weekend felt inconsistent, pairing them against opponents who didn't match their form. EA investigated and found a tuning issue that had made the matchmaking pool broader than intended.

A fix went out on October 9, confirmed directly by EA's official communications account:

In plain terms: FUT Champions should now behave the way it did in previous EA Sports FC titles, matching players closer to their current form rather than casting a wide net.

4. Career Mode Transfer Requests: Too Many Offers, Too Often

The community flagged two related problems with Career Mode's rebuilt transfer system: players were receiving an excessive number of transfer requests, and once a transfer enquiry was made for a target, too many competing offers were coming in from other clubs for the same player.

EA says it already deployed "a number of improvements" addressing both issues in Title Update V1.0.3 and Title Update V1.0.4, and that further Career Mode adjustments are planned based on continuing feedback. If you want the full context on how these title updates have rolled out since release, our breakdown of the original Title Update 1.0.1 patch notes is a good starting point, and our guide to Career Mode's Manager Live and Creator Challenges covers the mode's other new systems in detail.

What this means if you're managing transfers

  • Expect fewer, more targeted transfer requests from your squad than at launch.
  • Competing offers on a transfer target should now be more realistic in number.
  • EA has explicitly said more Career Mode improvements are still coming, so treat this as an ongoing process rather than a finished fix.

5. Fullback Defensive Depth: A Balance Issue EA Is Treading Carefully

The update also acknowledges a gameplay issue separate from the manual defending feedback above: in some situations, fullbacks are dropping too deep while defending. EA says this disrupts defensive structure and can unintentionally keep attacking players onside.

Because fullback positioning has knock-on effects across the whole gameplay balance, EA was explicit that it wants to be careful before making changes here — there's no fix timeline attached to this item, only an acknowledgement that the team is aware of it.

6. The Grounds: Kickabouts Matchmaking Needs Work

Players have also reported trouble getting a Kickabout started in The Grounds, EA's open-world social hub, largely because of player availability at any given moment. EA repeated the point it made in its Grounds-specific developer notes: the team is continuing to monitor how players are matching up and is actively looking at ways to improve the matchmaking queues, with more updates promised "as we get closer to a potential fix."

7. The Four Developer Launch Updates, Summarized

The week before this Feedback Update, EA published four separate Developer Launch Updates, one for each major pillar of the game. EA's recap lists the specific items each team is currently monitoring or investigating:

Gameplay

  • Monitoring reports of fullbacks dropping too deep and breaking defensive lines
  • Monitoring early-match trends around kick-off goals
  • Monitoring interceptions, to confirm items with lower defensive attributes aren't intercepting too easily
  • Monitoring shooting variety, especially low driven shots near the post
  • Investigating foul calls

Career Mode

  • Monitoring how players manage Stamina and Dynamic OVR
  • Working on visual updates to the Team Management UI
  • Investigating newly generated players entering Career Mode with higher starting OVRs than expected
  • Continuing to review feedback on Career Mode systems and progression

FUT

  • Monitoring early feedback on Ultimate Team gameplay and progression
  • Monitoring the Transfer Market and overall market trends
  • Reviewing feedback on Squad Building Challenges and Objectives
  • Continuing to investigate reported issues and prioritize fixes based on player data

The Grounds

  • Monitoring matchmaking and player availability for Kickabouts
  • Monitoring menu performance
  • Investigating incorrect Attribute costs for certain upgrades
  • Continuing to review reported issues across different activities and experiences

EA also pointed players toward recent Discord Developer Q&A sessions, where the Gameplay, The Grounds, FUT and Career teams answered community questions live. Recaps of those sessions are posted in the #FC-Direct-and-Dev-Comms channel on the official EA Sports FC Discord server.

8. What to Watch For Next

EA closed the update by thanking players for continuing to submit feedback and said it would share more information "throughout the course of the FC 27 season" as fixes and changes become available. None of the open items above — manual defending tuning, fullback depth, or Kickabouts matchmaking — have a confirmed release date yet, so expect them to surface in a future title update rather than immediately.

Quick recap:

  • FUT Champions matchmaking issue: already fixed, live since October 9.
  • Career Mode transfer request spam: improved in Title Updates 1.0.3 and 1.0.4, more changes planned.
  • Manual defending difficulty: no change planned yet — EA calls it a learning curve, not a bug.
  • Fullback defensive depth: acknowledged, but EA is being deliberately cautious about adjusting it.
  • Kickabouts matchmaking in The Grounds: still being investigated, no fix timeline given.
