Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts: Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas Arrive in the v42.20 Update

Kingdom Hearts has officially crossed over into Fortnite. Epic Games' Chapter 7 Season 4 "Override" update, v42.20, went live on September 17, 2026, and it brought Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas into the Item Shop as playable skins, along with a full set of Kingdom Hearts-themed weapons, items and challenges. Here's everything confirmed so far about the crossover and the rest of what shipped in the same patch.

1. What Is the Fortnite x Kingdom Hearts Crossover?

The collaboration is a partnership between Epic Games and Disney/Square Enix that brings four Kingdom Hearts II character designs into Fortnite: Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas. Epic teased the collaboration on September 13 before releasing a full cinematic trailer on September 15 that recreates the opening cutscene of Kingdom Hearts II shot for shot, scored to Hikaru Utada's "Sanctuary." The crossover then went live with the rest of the v42.20 patch on September 17.

As part of the takeover, Fortnite's in-game Moon has been reshaped into a glowing heart for the duration of the event, and a Shadow Heartless-themed cosmetic has been added to the Item Shop alongside the character sets.

2. The Sora, Riku, Kairi and Roxas Skins

All four outfits use the characters' Kingdom Hearts II designs rather than their more recent Kingdom Hearts III looks. Each character comes bundled with a Keyblade-themed harvesting tool:

• Sora wields the Kingdom Key, which also doubles as a usable Mythic weapon in matches (see below).
• Roxas carries the twin Keyblades Oathkeeper and Oblivion as a pickaxe.
• Riku is equipped with Way to Dawn.
• Kairi carries Destiny's Embrace.

According to the Item Shop listing, Sora is priced at 1,800 V-Bucks individually, while Riku, Kairi and Roxas are each 1,600 V-Bucks. The full Kingdom Hearts Bundle with all four outfits is listed at roughly 4,500 V-Bucks. The Gummi Ship glider and matching Heartless wheels are sold separately from the bundle. Epic has said the Kingdom Hearts cosmetics will rotate out of the shop when it resets on October 1, 2026, so the current listings are not expected to stay up indefinitely.

How to Get Sora for Free

Players don't have to buy Sora outright. Epic is running a dedicated Kingdom Hearts Cup on September 18, a solo-only Battle Royale and Zero Build competition, with regional start times of roughly 11 AM–2 PM EDT in North America and 5 PM–8 PM in Europe (a separate, earlier Reload session and a Mobile-specific window also run in some regions). Reported placement cutoffs for the free Sora skin are a top 1,000 finish in Europe and a top 100 finish in Oceania, Asia and the Middle East; check the in-game Compete tab for the exact cutoff in your region, since thresholds can be adjusted based on turnout. Anyone who scores 8 points or more in the Cup, even without a qualifying placement, still receives the Glowing Keyhole spray as a consolation reward.

3. New Kingdom Hearts Weapons and Items

Two Kingdom Hearts items are now in the general loot pool for everyone, not just players wearing the crossover skins:

• Kingdom Key — a melee weapon that lets any player unleash a combo of melee strikes and call down a lightning strike on opponents.
• Sea Salt Ice Cream — a consumable that restores health and shields for the player who eats it and for nearby teammates.

The same patch also introduced Rebecca's Guns, a dual-wielded Assault Rifle/SMG combo tied to the season's separate Cyberpunk: Edgerunners content, with an Exotic variant that fires ricocheting bullets. It's part of the same v42.20 drop but is not connected to the Kingdom Hearts collaboration.

Kingdom Hearts Power Hours

Epic is also running limited-time "Power Hour" sessions this weekend in which every player drops into the match already holding a Kingdom Key and a Sea Salt Ice Cream. The listed windows are Saturday, September 19, from 2–4 PM ET and again from 9–11 PM ET — worth checking the in-game news feed for your region, since Epic has adjusted event windows mid-season before.

4. Everything Else in the v42.20 "Override" Update

Kingdom Hearts is the headline addition, but v42.20 changed several other things across Chapter 7 Season 4:

• Loot Hacks refreshed — the Hyperburst Pistol, Mammoth Pistol, Reaper Sniper Rifle and Deadeye DMR are now hackable, while the Deadeye Assault Rifle was removed from the pool.
• New Zero Build pocket items — Shield Keg, Rift-To-Go and Shield Bubble Jr. were added as pocket options.
• New Sprites — four Sprites joined the roster, including a Pond Sprite (the winning entry from Epic's #DesignASprite community contest, which grants a Super Jump ability), plus Crash Bandicoot, Blinky and a Birthday-themed variant.
• Match Overrides — six gameplay modifiers are now rotating through matches: Recovery, Level Up, Dynamic Storm, Super Shot, Big Boom and Healing Overdrive. Two more, Suppressing Fire and Health Siphon, are scheduled to arrive September 24.
• Server changes — Epic consolidated North America's three separate matchmaking regions into a single NA region with selectable subregions, aimed at improving matchmaking speed and latency.

On the map, the storm around the Geno's Machine landmark has intensified, and Ghosts now spawn in the Mega Maze landmark — both changes tied to the season's ongoing story beats rather than the Kingdom Hearts content specifically.

5. Why This Crossover Is a Bigger Deal Than It Looks

Kingdom Hearts has been one of the most requested Fortnite collaborations for years, in part because Disney and Square Enix jointly own the rights and both had to sign off. Epic's decision to recreate the Kingdom Hearts II opening frame-for-frame in the launch trailer, rather than just dropping the skins with a generic teaser, signals how much weight Epic is putting behind the partnership — similar to how it treated past landmark crossovers. • If you're aiming for the free Sora skin, play the Kingdom Hearts Cup mode (Battle Royale, Zero Build, or Reload) that best matches your strongest playstyle — the point thresholds are shared across the format you choose, not per-mode.
