EA Sports FC 27: Early Access Is Live — Release Date, Editions and What's New Explained
EA Sports FC 27 early access is live for Ultimate and Ultimate Plus buyers ahead of the September 25, 2026 worldwide launch. Here's exactly when each platform unlocks, what separates the Standard, Ultimate and Ultimate Plus editions, and everything new in gameplay, The Grounds and Football Ultimate Team.
EA Sports FC 27 is no longer just a countdown on a calendar — as of today, early access is actually live. Players who bought the Ultimate Edition or Ultimate Edition Plus can already kick off on PC, and console early access has begun rolling out region by region, a full week ahead of the worldwide launch on September 25, 2026. Here is exactly who can play right now, what each edition includes, and everything new EA is bringing to the pitch this year.
1. Early Access Is Live: Who Can Play Right Now
EA confirmed that Ultimate Edition and Ultimate Edition Plus buyers get up to seven days of early access starting September 18, 2026. In practice the rollout is staggered by platform and region: PC early access opened first, at 23:00 UTC on September 17, with other platforms following at midnight local time on September 18. EA Play Pro subscribers also got full access to the game at the same PC start time, while EA Play members can jump into a 10-hour trial from 04:00 UTC on September 18.
Anyone on the Standard Edition will have to wait for the global release, but everyone gets access to the EA Sports FC 27 Web App and the refreshed Companion App now — both went live on September 16 and 17 respectively, so Ultimate Team squad-building can start before a single match kicks off.
2. Worldwide Release Date and Platforms
The global launch date is September 25, 2026, with the PC version unlocking at 23:00 UTC on September 24 and console versions following at midnight local time on the 25th. EA Sports FC 27 is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, plus last-gen versions on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A free-to-download Lite version also arrives on launch day.
Not every mode is on every platform, though: The Grounds and Clubs are only available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2 — last-gen consoles and the original Switch miss out on those two modes. A handful of regions launch later than the rest of the world: South Korea on October 2, Vietnam on October 9, and China on October 23.
3. Which Edition Should You Buy?
EA is selling three tiers this year, and the differences go well beyond a cosmetic bundle.
Standard Edition
Launch-day access on September 25, a 92+ OVR ICON player item for EA Sports FC 26 as a pre-order bonus, triple ICON/Heroes chances and a 5-star coach plus youth scout in Career Mode, and cosmetic content for The Grounds.
Ultimate Edition
Everything in Standard, plus up to seven days of early access, 6,000 FC Points delivered in three monthly drops, a Season 1 Premium Pass, and similar Career Mode perks to Ultimate Plus at a smaller scale. Anyone who pre-ordered by August 31 also gets an 85+ OVR ICON item outright; later Ultimate orders get an ICON pick instead.
Ultimate Edition Plus
This was a limited pre-order window that closed August 31, so it's no longer purchasable, but it's worth knowing what early buyers unlocked: 10,000 FC Points spread across five months, Premium Season Passes for Seasons 1 through 5, an 85+ OVR International ICON of the player's choice plus a Hall of FUT direct pick, three 5-star scouts/coaches and a Dynamic OVR pre-season boost in Career Mode, triple ICON/Heroes odds, Mbappé-themed cosmetics for The Grounds, and EA Sports FC 26 carryover bonuses.
4. Gameplay Changes: Manual Defending, Off-Balance Dribbling and More
EA's pitch notes describe several under-the-hood adjustments rather than a full engine overhaul. Manual defending has been reworked to reward more deliberate tackling on higher difficulties and in competitive play. A new off-balance dribbling system lets agile attackers throw defenders with sharper change-of-direction touches, and PlayStyles have been rebalanced so a player's actual attributes matter more than the PlayStyle badge alone. EA also added a dynamic corner kick system and says CPU behavior and physical duels have been tuned for more realistic contact.
5. The Grounds: Street Football's New Social Hub
The Grounds is EA's new social playground mode, described as the place "where the streets meet the stadium." It houses 5v5 Rush matches on unconventional pitches — including hoop-goal courts styled after streetball venues — alongside cosmetic rewards tied to the Ultimate and Ultimate Plus editions. As noted above, it's exclusive to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and Switch 2, so it won't appear on PS4, Xbox One or the original Switch.
6. Football Ultimate Team: FUT Gallery and Season 1 "Ones to Watch"
Football Ultimate Team gets a new FUT Gallery hub, a showcase space for kits, badges and standout cards rather than just a menu screen. Season 1, subtitled Ones to Watch, is live now and runs through October 22, 2026, headlined by dynamic player items for names tipped for a big season, split into Regular and Premium tiers.
7. Career Mode Upgrades
Career Mode's headline changes this year are staffing and progression related: Standard Edition owners start with a 5-star coach and a 5-star youth scout, while Ultimate and Ultimate Plus owners get up to three 5-star scouts/coaches and, for Ultimate Plus, a Dynamic OVR boost heading into the season. Triple ICON and Heroes signing chances carry over across every edition, giving Career Mode managers an easier path to marquee retired legends early in a save.
8. Women's Football and the Expanded Roster
Women's football content grows again this year, including the debut of AFC Richmond's women's side, with England international Chloe Kelly appearing as one of the game's mentor figures for player development content.
On the licensing side, EA says FC 27 covers more than 21,000 licensed players across 800-plus clubs and national teams, 35-plus leagues and 140-plus authentic stadiums. Liga MX returns for the first time since FIFA 22, and EA is continuing its partnerships with the Bundesliga, the ROSHN Saudi League and the A-League.
9. PC Performance and Frostbite Engine Improvements
PC players get some specific quality-of-life upgrades this year: EA says startup times are reduced, and the game now offers dedicated Performance and Balanced graphics presets alongside an on-screen VRAM usage indicator to help players tune settings for their hardware. The game continues to run on the Frostbite engine.
